Quote from: "GrinningYMIR"Anyone remember old red alert? Haven't played it in years. I loved it growing up though, even bought the collectors edition for RA3.

RA2 was my favorite
I had an old RA2 clan called N.A.T.O.. Those were some good times.

RA2 was great but the Russians really take it up the shorts in the expansion from prism spam and lots of mind control (which either forces soviet armies to infight to death or does the ol' mind-control/grinder combo, especially with engineer-ferrying flak tracks).  Also, brutes are practically useless against anything but tank destroyers.  Best faction:  Yuri with captured allied con yard.  Most satisfying thing in the world:  chronoshifting enemy MCVs and/or war miners into the ocean.

I remember Yuri being OP, those defense turrets alone were awful.

One thing I didn't like about RA2 was how superior the USSR tanks were. It took what, two or three Grizzlies to beat a Rhino? And the apocalypse was hands down the most deadly vehicle on the battlefield for a long time, excluding the occasional use of existing units in unorthodox strategies.

I liked playing the USA or USSR most of the time, simply because I liked mass airpower and mass tank rushes. Similar thing in Generals, though I must say that the Airpower seems to be much weaker in that game than in Red Alert.

In Generals I was always USA or GLA, US for the vehicles; GLA because It was fun. I loved popping guys out of tanks and trucks just to steal them with my own units. Popping guys out of no where with that one ability delighted me, and I loved putting terrorists on motorcycles and hitting the enemy where he couldn't react the slowest.

Quote from: "Plu"I picked up Path of Exile again for a bit, but the server still seems a bit laggy and the game is too brutal for a glass cannon to survive lagspikes so I figured I'd try out a Witch instead. It's fun so far.
I've been playing Path of Exile lately. It is a fun game. I haven't had too much trouble with lag, but the server occasionally boots me which is annoying. I was getting bsod's until I found a fix for a known sound card issue with it.

Static defenses were Yuri's big weakness.  But Psychic towers and a handful of gattling tanks could stop most attacks with the exception of V3s backed up with heavy armor or prisms.

Guardian GIs could tear them apart, though.  Or chrono legionnaires.  Or grand cannons.  Or tank destroyers.  Or prism hit-and-run.  Or battle fortresses.  Or mind control.

Tbh, USSR tesla tanks doing lightning (heh) strikes on vulnerable positions (read: chrono/war miners) were a lot more effective.  Apocalypse was great on paper, but its tremendously slow speed and its many counters made it more of a situational unit.

USA air or super, occassionally nuke china or china inf.  USA air was practically unstoppable.  China inf, despite being a magnet for aoe, could be surprisingly effective.

Can someone do me a favor and explain to me why 95% of the Killzone fandom thinks the ISA are evil simply because the Helghast are slightly sympathetic and look cool? They're FASCISTS! It's like they don't even realize that the setting of the games is purposefully reminiscent of the first 2 world wars, with the Helghast being the Germans. #-o

I have reached a level that gamers dread, where they want to play something but nothing in their inventory is satisfying, and they don't like any suggestions given to them. So there's just this thing like an itch that can't be scratched, constantly bothering you and you are unable to conquer it.

Play SuperCrateBox. It'll be fun for an hour or so and it's intensely difficult :P I'll give you a cookie if you can beat my 110 crate highscore.

Also spent the night with some friends playing the boardgame Terra Mystica. I love it, it's awesome :D Every game is different, it's exciting until the last points are counted, all the different races play in their own way and the skill cap is off the board from what I'm seeing so far. I'm going to have a lot of good hours with this one ^^

I just started watching a Lets Play of Ride to Hell: Retribution, which currently has the second lowest Metacritic score out of any game, and it is unbelievably hilarious.

Yeah, Angry Joe warned me about that one.  The damsel-in-distress sex scenes were a special kind of WTF.
