Considering your nitpicks and love for the original XCOM, you should consider checking out Xenonauts.

It's still in early development but mostly complete and in terms of gameplay much closer to the original XCOM, and in my personal opinion, a far better game for it.

Eh, I'll give it a shot sometime, but it definitely looks a bit unpolished atm.  I've seen a lot of indie XCOM-like games, and haven't been very impressed with what I've seen so far.  This one seems to at least have an interesting interception system.

Took some time off from Skyrim. It was eating into my schedule way too much. I've since substituted Hearthstone and been having a great time with a Warlock burn deck. Lots of 1-3 drops with Ardent Defenders, Argent Crusaders and Sea Giants as a nice mid-late game distraction. I also put an Alexstrasza in there in case of turtles.

But seriously, I was always the one who rejected whatever game was popular at the time, whether it be Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or whatever, so I know nothing about Magic. What's it like?

You can summon nightmarish machine-monsters to do your bidding, mentally dominate your opponent to death, and/or litter the battlefield with the charred remains of your enemy's army.  It's fun.

Blue/black or red/black!  Also, I'm learning to love blue/green.

I never liked blue, it didn't fit my play style. And my dad used to always play mono black, so he took all of the cards.

I still remember his zombie deck, if overwhelmed you or it broke out a phyrexian obliterator which was just awful to fight with the red deck I used at the time.

So, just started DA:Awakening again. God, I forget how much I hated that add-on. It's like they took everything I didn't like about Origins, which was a lot, and made it sooooo much worse. Also, Anders is possibly the least likeable companion out of any game I have ever played. And I just finished a game were one of your companions is a pimp, so that's really saying something.

Sometimes I fell like the only person in the world who likes DA2.
As for Awakening, it essentially tries to make the darkspawn more than just a cheep orc knockoff, and instead makes them completely ridiculous and over the top. The main villain is a talking broodmother whose lines are half hysterical laughter and half repeating the same words 20 times.

Seems slow. I don't know what the current meta looks like but it seems like there would be a million ways to deal with that.

The hydra was pretty tough back in the day, but the slow power punch decks don't work as well anymore, now it's all about quick smash attacks.
