Quote from: drunkenshoe on July 23, 2025, 05:26:21 AMI don't get this.
The sheer absurdity of bringing an enormous amount of pickles to snack on to the beach and also packing them in such an unusual way - just dumping them in the beachbag.  It's just such an odd thing to do.

Welcome to Earth. (May contain nuts.)
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

Even those folks don't turn willy-nilly into maniacal embalmed veggie herbivores.

"Oh, wearisome condition of humanity,
Born under one law, to another bound;
Vainly begot, and yet forbidden vanity,
Created sick, commanded to be sound."

You mean like the time me and some friends tried to learn snowboarding?

And I mean from the top of Mt. Etna, on Day One of learning. We fuckin' learned us a lot that day.

Yes and No. You remember that people used to get together, do things, talk, have a drink with their friend group? Now, we get together and scream. Considered as a sensible response to things of our times.

Elderly neighbor when I was in grade school: You like it now, but you'll live long enough to see things get worse.

Cheerful enough chap.

The Egyptians came up with the 24 hour day. Two cycles of tweleve. 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour comes from Babylon. The 60 number most likely because they divided a circle into 360 degrees. The sun moves through the sky ~1 degree per day and their calander was based on 360 days.

So early mechanical clock makers were just using a time keeping system that had been around for a few milenium before the fist mechanical clocks.
