Mario Kart is flat compared to Diddy Kong Racing.
Star Fox is a boring rail compared to Pokemon Snap.
Smash Brothers is a thumb smasher.

Isn't Pokemon snap literally a game where you are on a rail?

Hydra009

Yes.  Very different from the space shooter genre, where there's more freedom of movement.

QuoteMost of the game takes place in "Corridor Mode," which forces Fox's vehicle down a fixed path straight forward through the environment.

Odyssey 2 with...
The Quest for the Rings
Invaders from Hyperspace!
UFO!
Showdown in 2100 A.D.
Cosmic Conflict!
Football!
Speedway!/Spin-Out!/Crypto-Logic!
Armored Encounter!/Sub Chase!

I'm surprised no one wants to talk about the insanely fun the Odyssey 2.

Odyssey 2 is Atari 2600 on crazy.

Those mushrooms in Outlaw Showdown in 2100 A.D. complicate things....insanely.

Atari tried to put a little reality into the world of 8 bit. The Sky Diver had to look out for the laws of physics.

Atari Combat didn't have guided missiles that could navigate the crowded field and not stop until it hit something.

The Quest for the Rings is a fantastic co-op. Choose your powers and moves wisely to navigate the dungeon and avoid the T Rex.

Just finished Arkham Knight. 10/10, would play again.
I recently purchased on Steam and it wouldn't run. Had to request a refund, which made me cry considering how much I love the other Arkham games.

And on the wings of a dream so far beyond reality
All alone in desperation now the time has come
Lost inside you'll never find, lost within my own mind
Day after day this misery must go on

Rouge Squadron is a much better comparison, but of course, they're both space shooters.

Rogue Squadron was very innovative at the time - 3D graphics combined with freeform movement.  Previously, almost all space shooters were either in a vertical or horizontal corridor constantly moving and uncontrollable by the player.  Players could move in the cardinal directions within that corridor (like Gradius or Raptor) or players were restricted to only a single axis (like Galaga).  There were a few games that gave more control (like Defender), but the corridor was the norm.

Star Fox 64 wasn't the freeform wonderland that Rogue Squadron was, but it was great for its time.

Trust me, better off that way... it was (and as far as I know, still is) a hot, steaming pile of shit on PC.
