I took a trip back in time….bout 68. Watched”Hellfighters” with Wayne and Hutton. Not a bad watch. Old movies really show you how much acting has improved over the years. Still a bit of fun…and nostalgia.

We watched Cruella last night because I like Emma Stone. It was far more entertaining than I expected. Emma Stone was good but Emma Thompson as a sociopathic fashion designer was one of the most interesting villains I've ever seen in a Disney movie. The costumes were inspired.

I've watched The Nun today. LOL, it's terrible. I usually don't watch horror, but I thought I'd make a change today. Myeh.

There's such a shortage of good movies these days that I fallen to renting a horror film now and then.  I only do it if they get good reviews, but even then they all just seem like the same old horror cliche' over and over.  Once in a great while I'll hit on one that doesn't seem that bad, but they're not apparently good enough for remember which ones those were.

But The Nun was so obviously a failure that part was more disappointing, I think, lol. It's a series. and I had seen one of the Conjuring (2 maybe?) years ago, and it wasn't good but not this bad. I've watched the trailer of Annabelle (Same series) and all...they can do a lot of different stuff. But they just don't.

Girls' School Screamers. (1986) LOL It's terrible. Not Night of Demons terrible, but terrible.

A character drinks wine from a chalice (a flashback from 1939), as a proof of being a millionaire I think. LOL I think a silver chalice of that size would weigh a kilo or probably more.

We watched Downfall: The Case Against Boeing. It was quite damning. When I watch documentaries I always keep in mind there could be another side to the story but in this case I don't think there is one-- it's profits over human lives.

Does it mention Niki Lauda's lawsuit against them by any chance? Just recently learned of that.

No. I didn't know about that.

Yeah, apparently in the 90s Lauda had his own airline and one of his Boeing 767s engines decided to just reverse thrust, causing the plane to break apart over Thailand. Being the mechanic he was, Lauda personally led the investigation into the crash and discovered it was a software issue that wasn't limited to just the one plane.

Boeing, being Boeing, accused him of lying because it was actually his fault it crashed, and ended up in court over it and eventually were forced to settle with Lauda when all evidence pointed it to it being their fault.

So, what did everyone think about The Batman?  I confess I'm not a good movie critic, I enjoy most movies I see.  But I really liked it.  Actually, for about the first 30 minutes, I felt like it was "trying too hard" at its emo vibe or whatever you want to call the mood it was aiming for.  But, I got dialed into the story and started to really enjoy it.  The conclusion was pretty epic.

A very minor but oddly charismatic gang member was the spitting image of an internet-famous film critic.  That alone was worth the price of admission imho.  Definitely got a laugh out of me.

As for the movie itself, it was dark and gritty and creepy AF, borderline too dark and gritty imho.  Even Rorschach is telling this film to tone it down a notch.

It's not a masterpiece, but it was pretty good.  It's one of the rare movies that relies on Bats doing some detective work as opposed to just punching stuff or whipping out the Batcard.  I guessed a couple times and got it right and guessed a couple times and was horribly wrong a couple times.

Unlike other people, I wasn't too terribly impressed by the Batmobile, which to be honest, seems like a strange vehicle to use in a crowded urban hellscape with packed roads but plenty of alleyways and rooftops.  Bats can either use his grappling gun to swing around the urban jungle or use his hoverplane instead of waiting in bumper-to-bumper traffic.  Hell, he can use his handy bike when he absolutely has to hit the road, so there's basically no practical purpose for the Batmobile, but I digress.

The main villain (unlike an owl, I'm not gonna say who) was very good, no Heath Ledger but no Jared Leto either.  Again, good but not superb.  Gordon was good.  Alfred was okay.  Bats was okay.  Everyone else was okay.  Except the twins.  The twins were 10 out of 10 magnifique.

Here's one for you guys:

requires a person have 13 bucks to spend,
entrances even those those who prefer Joker
who only a day later will say it was mediocre?
