Don't know, I'll let you know when I finish the third one. 😉

Dang, turns out that the third one isn't yet ready for prime time! I'm a bit disappointed, but I guess I'll just have to wait. 🫩

I've heard of Murder by Death before, but now I've actually had the opportunity to see it. A very fun, silly, entertaining movie that kept me guessing all the way through it!

Gawdzilla Sama

Huge pile of veteran actors getting to be goofy. What's not to like?
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."
PZ Myers

Indeed, and many twists, so many I was confused all the way through to the very last scene! 🤣
But I wasn't too awful confused, I figured it had to be the "cook," because she sure as hell wasn't that plastic thing in the box! 🤣

Gawdzilla Sama

You noticed that at the end a certain character gave us the finger?

Well, she pulled off those fake "pinkies" and threw them down. Is that what you mean?

Another movie tonight, and another good one: Hero, with Dustin Hoffman, Chevy Chase, Geena Davis, Joan Cusack, and some others I'm unfamiliar with.
Strange movie, about a news reporter who's plane crashes on her way home from an award ceremony. Dustin Hoffman saved 54 people on the downed plane, and no one dies. Nobody knows who the hero is, so they put up a million dollar reward for the guy if he comes forward. But he's in jail for possession of stolen goods and can't show up.
A homeless guy, who the hero gave his shoe to (he'd lost the other at the plane crash site) claimed that he was the hero to collect the money.
Hijinks ensue, leading to a happy ending for all concerned.
That's the gist of it. I can highly recommend it.

Saw a good heist movie today, with Michael Caine and Demi Moore, called Flawless, from 2007. It involved diamonds at the London Diamond Exchange, and a couple of the employees who worked there. £100,000,000 worth of diamonds just disappear, and the insurance company won't pay the ransom demand for their return! 😱

Flawless is a 1999 movie starring Robert DeNiro and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

I see that, but it's a completely different movie. I read the plot summary, doesn't sound very interesting to me, even though the cast is good.

I picked up the Criterion blu-ray of My Dinner With Andre.

First off, the video quality is terrible. The first shot, you can see the film grain scurrying around like a cloud of gnats. You get used to is and when we get to the restaurant the lighting helps hide this, I guess. Apparently there are no better elements available.

Second thing is I learned that this is a Troma movie. That is, Troma, Inc. has a credit. At first I was like, 'That can't be the same Troma,' and then on the next page of credits, Lloyd Kaufman is credited as production manager. Apparently he'd done work on a bunch of movies before Toxic Avenger, including Saturday Night Fever and Rocky. It kind of makes sense that he'd get work as some of these filmmakers were coming up at the same time and when you have an outfit that has cameras and is somewhat competent at point them at stuff, you'll get some freelance gigs on more prestigious film. I just find it funny the Toxic Avenger guy has a credit on the quintessential arthouse film where two guys have dinner and talk.

Paleophyte

I watched The Long Walk the other day, and it was pretty dull. It tries to bill itself as a psychological drama/thriller, but the main character is a boring and unlikeable cliche, and the group dynamics that it tries to establish are unbelievable. This was originally a Stephen King book, and it was always going to be hard to translate it to cinema, and it doesn't feel like they did a very good job of it. They try for a surprise twist with the ending, only to screw it up by swerving straight back into the incredibly predictable again. For me it falls between "Watch Only If Really Bored" and "Not Worth Pirating".

Hydra009

I'm rewatching The Ninth Gate after I saw a youtube video that had "theories" about the "ambiguous" ending.

Apparently, there's a lot of confusion about the ending.  Some people thought Corso would unleash the devil or that the green-eyed woman is the devil or something.  Well, I have news for you guys, because I figured it out at first viewing, so grab a seat.

Corso IS Lucifer.  The whole movie is him letting go of his humanity and returning home to his throne.  Obvious, isn't it?
