Total coincidence. I said I'd fuck my own daughter, if I wasn't related to her. I pander to Christians, but can't quote a single verse. I bankrupt every business I touch, including casinos. Every other world leader thinks I'm a clown, I have zero social skills, and I literally smell like shit. I have the support of literal Nazis, the KKK, and other hate groups, and I refuse to disavow them. I attempted to overturn an election I lost, and my employees wrote me a roadmap to destroy the balance of power. My plan to fix the economy is to kick out the brown people, citizens or not, and applying aggressive tariffs. Don't Google how those work until after the election is over."

Sometimes, I can be pretty optimistic.  Like Star Trek VI optimistic.  But most of the time, it's more like Judge Dredd or The Outer Limits.  On average, it's more like a Futurama optimism.  Or maybe Final Space.

I've seen too many dire predictions come and go to be worried about any pending apocalypse.

2012 was hysterical. "End of the Mayan calendar! We're all doomed." Yeah, like Dec. 31st (any year) is a  harbinger too.

Sometimes, I feel like it's all an unusually long-lasting Jenga match.  Sure, lots of predictions that it'll all crumble were wrong.  In fact, they were all wrong.  But sooner or later, someone makes a move that was just a tad ill-considered and a tad too awkward on an already teetering base...

For an Abnormal Psych* class I took at Purdue I tried to read an 1,800+ page "proof" that "the end was NOT near", that it had, in point of fact, already happened. Seems that humans are continuing on through pure cussedness. Being Irish on my parents' sides of the family I had to consider that carefully.

Obviously, the red giant sun incinerates our home planet. I would believe in miracles if that's what ends homo sapiens, however.

Normal evolution, whereby only the fittest survive, simply takes too long compared to relatively fast atmospheric changes. That has been the doom of almost all species at some point. You spend millions of years perfecting for a certain niche and that niche just disappears. "Abita abita abita, that's all folks".

And of course, what is different with homo sapiens is that "fit" could also mean wealthy or socially powerful. The wealthy and powerful might forget that large numbers of desperate individuals have power too. The same kinda thing Putin is thinking about when he tries to sleep on a cold, cold night.
