Humanity may or may not not even be around in 1000 years. But I certainly won't be, so I'll never know how it turns out. That saddens me.

Yeah. I don't mind the idea of being dead. In fact, I prefer it to the alternative, existing for eternity. It would be nice to be able to stick around for as long as we want, though. See how humanity works out. Find out if life is on other planets. Witness the fusion of the Milky Way and Andromeda, if that actually happens. That event seems to be in question now. Then, when I'm done, I hit the quit button.
