We are surrounded by Christians.  I used to be one.  You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Christian.  Actually, you should put this time to better use and straighten out your misconceptions about atheists.

Why's it always dead cats? Why not live ones?

Yes. How do you decide what is good or what is evil?
Harm and equity. I don't like harm to myself, and I don't like causing harm to others. I like to treat everyone I meet with the same respect that I would like to get from them. It really all begins from there.

Does the lack of an after-life frighten you?
Not any more than the lack of a before-life frightens me.

Quote from: chongjasmine on June 14, 2014, 10:52:15 PM
How do you cope with death since you do not believe in an after-life?
The same way I cope with birth as I don't believe in a before-life. The important part comes now, in the time between the time I am born and the time I die.

Quote from: chongjasmine on June 14, 2014, 10:52:15 PM
Does lack of punishment for doing evil hinders you from doing the right thing in life?
No. If anything, it means doing right in the now, because there's no time after death to make up for a lousy life. The legacy I leave behind is the only thing that will be worth anything after my death.

Quote from: chongjasmine on June 14, 2014, 10:52:15 PM
If there is evidence that God exists beyond doubt, will you worship Him?
Probably not. A good god would not want to be worshiped. An indifferent god would not care. An evil god would not deserve it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morality_without_religion#Consequentialism  A little of column A, a little of column B, a little of column C...

QuoteDoes the lack of an after-life frighten you?
About as frightened as I am of the boogeyman.  Death is by definition the end of life, so logically there cannot be an "after"life.  And it's hard to be afraid of something that doesn't exist.

QuoteHow do you cope with death since you do not believe in an after-life?
Dunno.  But apparently I'm coping better than the religious.  Go me.

QuoteDoes lack of punishment for doing evil hinders you from doing the right thing in life?
You mean the whole cosmic justice thing?  Or criminals that aren't punished for wrongdoing by the courts?  Either way, no.

QuoteIf there is evidence that God exists beyond doubt, will you worship Him?
Would such a God be worthy of worship?  Would such a God require worship?  Seems like the sort of thing that only someone with a frail ego would demand.

So no, probably not.  But if a God was actually shown to exist beyond reasonable doubt, I would accept that such a God exists.  Everything else is conditional on which sort of God it would be.  But let me hazard a guess, the Christian one, right?  I must be psychic.

Odd that it occurs naturally, then.

Yes. How do you decide what is good or what is evil?

Who gets to decide what is "good" or "evil"? In your case Biblegod. Let me ask an indirect question about "evil"  that somewhat correlates with this subject:

Do you hate yourself? Do you hate your mother? Father? Brother? Sister? Do you hate us? If you say "no" then you must hate Biblegod because you have to hate all those people, including yourself, to love Biblegod. The Bible says so (Luke 14:26). So, answer me this: isn't that, in of itself, "evil"? And if not, how is that "good"?

QuoteDoes the lack of an after-life frighten you?

Does Gullom from Lord of the Rings, frighten you? Of course not! And, why? It's made up.

QuoteHow do you cope with death since you do not believe in an after-life?

Very well.

QuoteDoes lack of punishment for doing evil hinders you from doing the right thing in life?

What "evil" do I do? Did you know you're doing "evil" right now just conversing with us? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

QuoteIf there is evidence that God exists beyond doubt, will you worship Him?

Your Biblegod? No. Any god? No.

chongjasmine, all I see is you making unsubstantiated claims based on anecdotal belief systems. You claim that the deity you believe in did this, did that, and it sounds great, but you have not provided a single shred of evidence for what you claim.

I'll give you a hint: This is the problem. You come on this forum and say "god did X, Y AND Z" and all I see, literally, is you presenting the claim to us. I see no evidence. No research. No data. Just you making a claim in text that something happened. That's it.... literally.

So yeah, if we can get past the point of you, literally, just making empty claims, then we can get a real discussion going here. If we can't get past that, then you will not be taken seriously. I am warning you now before other people here start to criticize your very obvious lack of objective evidence for anything you are saying.

Rosie O'Donnell, Phyllis Diller, Oprah.

Marry one, fuck one, kill one.

Go.

Oprah to fuck marry and kill, in that order. Only because Rosie o'donnell is unfuckably irritating. And is Phillis diller still alive???
Q for theists; how can there be freewill and miracles? And, how can prayer exist in an environment as regimented as "gods plan"?

I suppose dead cats just swing easier.  I've never actually tried to swing a live cat, but it could be problematic.
