PickelledEggs

I just started playing League instead of Dota 2.

I not only how much better it is than dota, but also how much people hate the character I unlocked...

No religion for me thank you very much; I 'm full of shit enough as it is.

Being flabbergasted about existence never made anyone disappear in a poof of flabbergas, so nevermind why we're here. We ARE here.

Yeah I've been into gaming for years, I play League of Legends right now as well as a lot of other games on Steam. Dota 2 can be fun sometimes but I think they need to give it some badly needed updates.

I really like the announcer in Dota 2.

"MUMUMU MULTIKILLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!" I wish they had that in League of Legends. LoL's announcer is sort of boring.

Plu

That announcer sounds suspiciously like the one from Unreal Tournament. Like they just copied the sound files or something.

frosty

Yes, those classic sounds are from Unreal Tournament. Even though after all these years of playing different versions of CS, it always refers to them as 'Quake sounds'.... but from what I know they are indeed UT sounds. I don't know the legal issues of copying the files, a lot of server plugins for CS literally just use the sound files so I guess maybe the Dota 2 devs did that, but they are an exception so maybe they asked first.

PickelledEggs we could always play if you want, I tend to get bored of games fast, but maybe playing in a party could make it more fun.

Nonsensei

Been playing Valdis Story AC. Its a very polished side scrolling 2D pixel art ARPG in the style of Castlevania: SOTN.

They have a demo on their website.

XB1 vs PS4 time again?

Sure!

Quote"The [Xbox One] incompatible with existing gaming headsets, including high-end audio products like those made by Astro Gaming, Turtle Beach, Tritton, and others."

Cool. So the PS4 comes with a mic, is compatible with last-gen and blue tooth... and the XB1 is over in the corner eating its own poop again. No compatibility with last gen mics, high-end headsets & doesn't ship with one. Because that worked so well for Sony with the ps3 to not include a mic... oh wait...

"Look at our new entertainment system! We don't even bother to mention games because gamer's don't like us anymore!"

Yeah, fuck that. They can go for the new market... sure... but don't expect people who buy game consoles for gaming to be happy when you fuck them over time after time and then also, instead of apologizing just saying, "Fine, we will get a new audience then.".

I mean, I sorta get it... it's a different product for a different consumer. But I liked the Xbox360 and with XB1 it feels like Microsoft is just giving Sony the go to have a monopoly over console gaming. Yeah sure, Microsoft will have amazing sales because of brand loyalty (even with the broken X-boxes and the stupidity of the XB1, I still almost want one)... but the people who do console gaming for console gaming's sake, not just to have a glorified entertainment system that also plays games every once and awhile, are all switching over to PS4. And ontop of that Microsoft has basically told the gamers to go fuck themselves several times and are also much stricter on game developers than Sony is which is moving alot of indie developers to the PS4 camp as well.

I don't know, I liked the console wars and the competition between ps3-xbox360, ps2-xbox, but at this point it seems there is only one console... the ps4. XB1 is an entertainment system, not a gaming system, and I really feel let down by Microsoft for basically turning its back on the people who made xbox popular and giving them the finger as the walk away.

And inb4, "JUST GET A PC, NUB!"... I grew up on PC gaming and I still do PC gaming, but console gaming is just straight up fun as well. Ever realize that maybe people can enjoy more than one system and that by being a dick about it all you do is turn people who might consider PC gaming off?

(Last bit not aimed at anyone here that I can recall, just putting it in there incase :P).

That's fine.  Consoles excel at certain genres (platforming, fighting, etc) and PCs excel at certain other genres (strategy, sim, etc).  It all depends on what you're into.

Plu

People who think that the XBox cannot launch an entertainment system that also kinda plays lame games and expect it to be succesful may have missed the fact that the Facebook/Farmville combo was good for billions of dollars and hundreds of millions of users. And it was just that; a communication system that had some lame games.

Maybe they are tapping into a new market here.

Or maybe they'll burn badly. I don't know. But thinking there's no market but the current console gamers is a bit short sighted. That's what people said before the Wii became such a success as well.

I cant really agree. The only reason someone might say consoles excel at platforming and fighting games and the like is because the controller is most suited for those types of games.

But you could just plug a gamepad into your PC. Theres literally nothing a console can do that a PC can't do just as well. Because a console is just a stripped down budget PC with software locks and made of bulk parts that haven't been cutting edge for a couple years. My now 4 year old Dell PC would blow the ps4 out of the water. If it weren't for console exclusives, the only reason to buy a console instead of a PC would be the price. Honestly even with the exclusives the price is the primary reason people buy consoles.

Plu

The price and the simplicity. A console lets you pop in a disc and play. A PC generally requires you to install the software and then find and open it.

Don't underestimate how much easier it is to get people to use something if it's a no-brainer. Most people don't want to think about it.

(And any move by console makers to make their console more pc-like by adding operating systems and other controls as such is a risky one. The simplicity of it all is definately a console selling point.)
