Weirdly, I looked at the Freaky Friday movies. They remade it twice. Didja know that? In the original, they just wished to swap bodies and it just happened. No real explanation because that shit doesn't matter. The real point is to watch the mother and daughter come to understand one another better. Then they made a TV movie where there were magic necklaces, because we needed an explanation for why this dumb shit on the poster happened. Then there was the 90's movie which had magic fortune cookies, which is just fucking racist. Ancient Chinese secret, my left nut. Just a downward slide in quality and craftsmanship.

Personally, I prefer the utter lack of explanation.  You wake up one day in a totally different body.  Total mindfreak.  Plus, if you don't know how it happened, you have zero control over it, so you can focus on the weirdness of it all and the relationship more.
