Teaspoon Shallow

Quote from: "NitzWalsh"One guy I know says that there was a water canopy over the earth and that plants grew because water misted from the ground.

Oh that makes sense.  So there was no light then? :-k

Why rocks?

aitm

ah, of course water misted from the ground. My brother claims that as well. As for the water canopy, well that is exactly what the babble says the sky is, water.

I was watching an old episode of Rome the other night (from Showtime or HBO, I think).  Two Romans soldiers are looking up at the night sky and one asks, "What do you think the stars are?"  The other one replies, "They're holes in the dome over the Earth that let the light from Heaven show through."  The first guy speculates some more, "Do you think they could be something else?"  And the second guy turns his head and looks at him like he's an idiot.

I thought that was funny, but probably typical among the ancients.

I Know that scene - laughed at it too - remember it exactly as you say.   LMAO  Classic!

Exactly, I was watching ..er...Aggrippia or something like that, about the female librarian over the library of Alexander who was killed by early xians....anyhoo......one of the xian soldiers upon hearing the theory that the earth was round made the very simple observation. "what? if they are on the bottom what stops them from falling off?"  And everyone kinda looked like it made absolute sense, which of course, it should have.

Hypatia was her name.

Did you just say that??

Please do not remove that post nor edit it, so others can see it.

I did just say that and you didn't answer it.  Why do things need a reason to be?

Why do they nearly always run away when you ask them a difficult question?

They've never been exposed to hard questions.

And despite all the lies this guy has forwarded about having a good education (they teach you reasoning skills in most decent schools in Western Europe), I don't think he's ever going to answer you. He's just going to ignore you/deride you/ accuse you of being obtuse, when really he should be looking in the mirror and recognising his own faults.

"He who is without sin" and all that.

I like how he didn't deny he was a liar.

Almost showing some... honesty.

Shin has though. And the answer he gave is pretty much the only answer he will give when a question hands him his own butt on a silver platter.
He's not worth keeping.
"In the end theologians are jealous of science, for they are aware that it has greater authority than do their own ways of finding “truth”: dogma, authority, and revelation. Science does find truth, faith does not. " - Jerry Coyne

Quote from: "Jason78"Why do they nearly always run away when you ask them a difficult question?

Simple.  They lack answers and they realize this.   None of these theists (with brains) can be on this forum long enough and surf around that they don't figure out we've got'em by the short hairs.  Thus............ they flee.

It's only the rare birds like StupidDave and now MR who continue to regurgitate the same basic question:
"Definite answer unknown therefore insert GodDidIt"
and they go round and round and round till they finally get tired of the response:
"Unknown answer does NOT mean GodDidIt."
GodDidIt is an assertion - Only.  Always has been an assertion and always will be an assertion.

I honestly believe the smarter ones may come here and pose a question, realize (with our help) that they do not have answers.  At that point unwilling to give up their faith - they decided to accept the unanswered and retain that faith. But to really do so - they must leave us.

........ what with knowledge and logic being the absolute enemies of faith and all.   How could they stay here?

Quote from: "Teaspoon Shallow"Why rainbows?  Was refraction a divine intervention by you god?

Don't be silly, rainbows only need two things, water vapor and light, so before the flood we obviously were missing one of those, so it either never rained prior or there was no light. Crazy anti-babblist...
That's like saying that life is just some amino acids.

Sorry, won't cut it.
