"Fuck Jax" is what you got out of it? If anything, this is the first episode to make us empathize with him more. It looks like I was right about him being mean for self-preservation reasons. He's still a jerk, but it's understandable why he is the way he is. He's afraid of getting attached, because he knows that down the line, attachment leads to loss, which leads to pain. He's an asshole, but a redeemable one.

I mean, he started out physically bullying Gangle and psychologically bullying Ragatha in episode 1 and has consistently either bullied characters or been physically restrained from doing so (like in the ghost episode).  Now it also seems like he's trying to manipulate Pomni (granted, Ragatha is manipulative as well, but she at least has good intentions), which probably won't end well for her.

So yes, fuck Jax and the horse he rode in on.

This is also true.  But learning about a bully's plight doesn't mean that they what they're doing is okay.  We're talking tormenting people whose continued existence relies upon keeping it together mentally/emotionally.  At a certain point, my sympathy runs out, sad backstory or not.

What we know:  when it comes to keeping the group together and alive, Jax is the number one threat, beyond even Caine's adventures, especially now that we know that these adventures are not always traumatizing - they can be pretty chill when given the right nudge.

So, when push comes to shove and you have to prioritize Jax or prioritize Ragatha/Gangle/Kinger and probably to some extent Zooble, it's a no-brainer.  Keeping the whole group intact is ideal but unlikely - if and when things go south, probably due to Jax, the needs of the many...

The ones you least expect to be orphans?

Sometimes, ya gotta mislead a little to attract attention.  No one would buy a ticket to Blair Witch 2: A bunch of people doing drugs and freaking out and killing people.

"Black Severus Snape" is sure stirring things up for the upcoming HP reboot already. I gotta wonder what the motive for such a decision would be. Altruism? Any press, good or bad is good? The best actor for the part?

What's-her-name-who-shan't-be-mentioned already turns off Trans and allies with her Twitter war. We just can't seem to have a remake without a shit-storm from the anti-wokers. You would think filmmakers may wanna give up on the franchise concept altogether. Most the recent franchise remakes just lose money or have weak returns. Star Wars, Mermaid, Raiders, Croft, Snow White, Bat Woman/girl, Ghost Busters, She-Hulk, Dr Who, Rings of Power.

The reviews and media content from both political sides are more entertaining than the films. Meanwhile, I just can't make it through these sorts of movies/TV shows any more. The idiotic plots, weak character development, marginal acting, ridiculous 'puter graphics. Star Wars is supposed to be the epic battle between a democracy of well-meaning citizens and power-hungry authoritarianism, per Lucas himself. We could use a good episode right about now.

I was very late to the Harry Potter franchise. Didn't read them and saw the movies about five years ago. It was entertaining and I did care about the characters and their plights. I'm sure a season for each book could really go into details. There are some social issues with the plots for sure so it will be interesting to see what they do with that.

I wish it was just confined to twitter.  That irl Umbridge uses her Harry Potter fortune to fund anti-trans legislation, so buying her stuff is akin to buying Voldemort's wand and gifting it to him.

There are plenty of other magical/fantasy IPs and I encourage people to check them out instead.  It sucks, but this is what happens when people rot and go bad.  Evil around the globe often operates with good people's money.

'She who cannot be named' is nothing if not tenacious. Fair social solutions for so-called trans "issues" will require thoughtfulness and compassion from both camps. Much of the trans hate is based in religion, no doubt.

I often end up rewatching my old favorite movies/TV as a comfort backdrop after trying a few new offerings on the streaming networks and losing interest. I guess the golden age of film is over.

Iirc, trans folks became a punching bag in conservative circles because gay people largely won the gay marriage battle in many western countries.  So the chuds just switched targets instead of abandoning their hate.

TURDs in general and J.K. in particular try to mask it as being pro-women's rights but if you look beyond the words and to the actions, their focus clearly is on harming trans people, not lifting up women.  Gotta watch the feet.

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson became personae non grata to J.K. for voicing support for trans rights.  That reveals a lot.

My second wife wanted to be a children's librarian, so we bought the HP books as they came out. She couldn't argue about them with kids but I was available. Favorite memory from that time would be showing her what Hagrid looked like when he wasn't Hagrid.

I had to google since I'd never seen the guy without his Hagrid gettup. Looks like a stand up comedian.

I can't wait until they get to the part of the series where Hermione tries to free the house elves of Hogwarts from their slave labor, but everyone finds her annoying, because the slaves don't mind being slaves.

There were always signs that Rowling was a PoS, but they went unnoticed.

I know she studied folklore and so I assumed the house elves were derived from "Brownies". Here's the twisted part. They had autonomy. She turned them into slaves.

A brownie or broonie (Scots),[1] also known as a brùnaidh or gruagach (Scottish Gaelic), is a household spirit or hobgoblin from Scottish folklore that is said to come out at night while the owners of the house are asleep and perform various chores and farming tasks. The human owners of the house must leave a bowl of milk or cream or some other offering for the brownie, usually by the hearth. Brownies are described as easily offended and will leave their homes forever if they feel they have been insulted or in any way taken advantage of.

I will concede that stereotypes are useful in day-to-day life. We all rely on them, but Holy Hell those Gringotts goblin bankers.

She was pointing out that only the slaves can free the slaves from the slave mentality.

What's wrong with having a race that is characterized as being greedy money-lenders?
