She thinks, if she is asked a question about numbers they are absolute values to take into account with four operations only. Numbers are either high or low compared to each other. She is not looking for any other relationship between the data given to her.

But what if the real distribution is Poisson, not Gaussian (it is).  Then you are both wrong perhaps?  Yes, I am not accurate, median is correct, not average.  But the average reader wouldn't know or care about the difference.
