He  believes in a global Jewish conspiracy in which the "Zionist Jews" control all aspects of society from government (US congress and the EU) to financial institution (Federal reserve) to the media. I'm not very read up on this specific topic, but from my years as an atheist I've learned to question all extraordinary claims.

Ever!  Also, you can't get two people to keep a secret let alone a group of hundreds or thousands (or however many he thinks attend the secret meetings). You're neighbor is an idiot but you kinda sound like you want to believe him. Keep in mind that conspiracy nuts, just like religious nuts have the full burden of proof. No one has to prove that the jews AREN'T running the world. You could never prove a negative like that.

Here is my take on why jews have been reviled.

Since they were dispersed by the Romans the Jews have been a very insular people and are also over achievers. Asian tiger moms have nothing on jewish moms. Like asians they are also above average in intelligence, with some jewish groups (Ashkenazi Jews) having a much higher average IQ: http://ieet.org/index.php/ieet/more/pellissier20110719
In intellectual achievement jews are represented in numbers far higher than their population would suggest. Check out the number of Nobel prize winners for instance. 22% Jewish with a global population of about .2%
So why would they not be over represented in monetary achievement or artistic achievement? Brains and a heavy work ethic are going to produce results with no need for a conspiracy theory.

Those traits of intelligence, work ethic and especially an insular nature all but guarantee that they are going to be hated wherever they have settled. What group is not going to see jewish success in THEIR country as a threat and put the blame on some crazy conspiracy theory rather than just admit they are being out produced?

Also, I'm pretty sure that no government other than Israel has anything close to a numerical majority of Jewish people as politicians in office or even a significant minority. Could be wrong, but I'm fairly confident I'm not.

On the contrary, i want to combat his rhetoric with informed arguments and facts against his conspiracy theory. Im frustrated by the lack of such information, on the web at least. Also frustrating is that judging by popular opinion in debates on pop sites, public opinion is much in his favor :/

Berati was spot on. First the possibility of "zionist" conspiracy must be proven to be remotely possible. As stated by several people, to keep this level conspiracy quiet would take an immense level of secrecy. That type of secrecy has failed to be remotely possible throughout history. People simply can't keep their damn mouths shut. Then there is the families, wives, children, etc that would also have to keep quiet.

A prime example would be the Mafia. The mob runs shit, kills people, commits crimes left and right and they can't seem to keep their mouths shut. All of this despite the mobs very public policy of "wacking" snitches(and their families) at will.

Sort of like the Loch Ness monster imo. A scientist proved Nessie was impossible because the Loch didn't produce enough food to feed a critter that big, and fish population studies did not show any significant losses to indicate any predator of that size, a double whammy. A Jewish conspiracy would require infiltration of governments, ownership of numerous corporations or power blocs capable of manipulating people. There are probably more antisemitic media outlets than there are the opposite.

And like Moral pointed out, the degree of secrecy would have to be impossibly tight.
