It's very easy to assign meaning to something post-hoc. That's why scientists make predictions, based on what they currently know, and then look to see if their predictions come true. Watch. I'll show you how easy it is to BS this stuff.

Did you know that "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel is a prophecy? I'll prove it.

Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

Here, the lyrics directly tell us that what is to be described later is a "vision." Another word for vision is "prophecy." Simon & Garfunkel are about to predict the future.

In restless dreams, I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

Simon & Garfunkel describe an obnoxiously bright, "neon" light, which hurts their eyes. This could describe a lot of things, but the source of the light will be made more clear.

And in the naked light, I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

Masses of people, mindlessly communicating, without speaking, without really listening. What does that sound like to you? That's right. Cell phones. People sending messages to each other via the light of their phones, speaking through text (ie without speaking out loud). They "hear" without listening, both because there is no sound and also because they're not understanding one another. People write songs that no one shared? Sounds like the sounds made by a cell phone when you tap on it, especially when dialing a number, where each button makes a different tone. Kinda like music. No one dared to disturb the silence? Everyone is absorbed by their cell phones, not paying attention to the people around them. They do not want to be disturbed. This also may be alluding to the "do not disturb" mode, which literally turns cell phones silent. AND who ends up covering this song, by pure coincident, DECADES later? The band "Disturbed!" Coincidence?

And let's go back to the obnoxious, neon light described earlier. Have you heard of a little thing called "eye comfort shield?" It's a setting on every modern phone, which makes it more comfortable to look at by LIMITING BLUE LIGHT! The cell phones hurt people's eyes so much that there's a setting dedicated to it! It's so obvious this is what Simon & Garfunkel saw in their prophecy!

"Fools," said I, "You do not know
Silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops, fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

Everyone knows that being so absorbed in cell phones, and the social media it connects us to, is bad for our mental health. But what do we do about it? NOTHING! Like fools, we ignore this cancer on our society, as it rots away at our social connections. We ignore the warnings, we do not reach out to the people around us, and we become more isolated, depressed, and angry as a result. Just as God's prophets Simon & Garfunkel tried to warn us, we did not listen.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence"

This chunk of lyrics further emphasizes how helpless we are to resist the temptations of the "neon god" of our own creation. Things continue to get worse. As for the words of the prophets on the subway walls?

Modern day prophets are still trying to warn us against the dangers of surrendering to the Neon God. We must resist. We must find connections with each other, and not seek AI for companionship. Will we listen to the prophets this time? Only time will tell.

I rest my fucking case.

Putin: Give Donbass to us diplomatically!
*under his voice* because we are unable to fully take it by force.

Putin tells the world in general and Trump in particular that he's ready for peace - then tells his own people that he'll exploit the "cooling" of relations between the US and Ukraine with increased aggression.  Interesting.

Why would Trump be worried about prosecution?  He's not doing anything illegal, right?

QuoteUS threatens new ICC sanctions unless court pledges not to prosecute Trump

WASHINGTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's administration wants the International Criminal Court to amend its founding documents to ensure it does not investigate the Republican president and his top officials, a Trump administration official said, threatening new U.S. sanctions if it did not.

If the court does not act on this U.S. demand and two others - dropping investigations of Israeli leaders over the Gaza war and formally ending an earlier probe of U.S. troops over their actions in Afghanistan  - Washington may penalize more ICC officials and could sanction the court itself, the official said.

So, will the ICC give in to Trump's demands, or will it stand firm and uphold its raison d'etre?

QuoteTrump says he's "crushing" inflation as GOP faces affordability concerns

This after insisting for weeks that inflation is a Democratic Hoax. I do my own shopping and I've been aware of inflation all this year. It's not a hoax, and it is worrisome. And it seems to be gaining strength. "Crushing inflation" is a joke and in very poor taste. And with tariffs and lower borrowing rates, it's going to get worse.

I'm looking at a Russian infantry training video and I'm watching the three fattest guys in Russia slowly bumble into a trench and make pewpew noises while very, very, very slowly walking down an empty trench.  One of them is doing that fat guy heavy breathing thing and it honestly looks like he's about to drop towards the end of the video.

Apparently, they're practicing trench clearing, but at such a glacial pace that the enemy could order an artillery piece from IKEA, construct and load it, then fire it on them before they even so much as make it to the enemy trench.

People talk about how Russia has a huge population as if their entire population can be converted into soldiers, which it can't.  They can't even convert much of the men of the right age because of much more severe substance abuse and health problems than other countries.  This is what they're working with, take a good long look.  Would Russia deploy these people if they had other, better options?
