Actually that's a myth started by vampires so to generate false negatives (erroneously clearing someone from suspicion of being a vampire when they actually show up in a mirror's reflection)

The running water thing got started because as it turns out, european nobles more often than not didn't know how to swim.

And the counting rice thing...well, lots of people were "on the spectrum" in the late medieval and early modern period without being diagnosed.

Apparently, the mirror thing was based on the idea that vampires couldn't interact with silver, which mirrors were once backed with. Since modern mirrors don't have silver, it's irrelevant if it was ever true.

That's a sine and a shame.
