That "town" (a veritable metropolis compared to much of NC) is well-known to me.  I always say Shar-let, but I have heard Shar-lot a...well..lot.  I think this is because a lot of people make the mistake of just trying to pronounce something as it is written, which is a logical approach to a very illogical language.

Apparently, the French give it somewhat of a -lot as well and the word is ultimately french/italian in origin, so perhaps this is an example of American deviation.

I'm not in NC. I'm in Rochester, NY. We just steal names and shit, I guess.

I have mixed feeling about xmas. Even though I do think it is pretty cool to have a decorated tree as a pagan tradition, we have plenty of twinkly lights all throughout the house all year.

Screw waiting for xmas to give presents too. It has become so expected. I prefer to surprise someone out of the blue. And there are those friends of mine who have had someone die on xmas eve or something and they are a guilty mess every xmas holiday because they think that they have to be cheerful while it is a painful reminder. I remember my father spent the holidays drunk as a skunk because all the women-folk go holiday-crazy.
