I have a degree in physics and used it for decades. What I'm seeing in that visual doesn't surprise me at all, sad to say. Though generally in an engineering environment, egregious mistakes like this don't happen.

This one's pretty easy if you stop and think:

30 + 1/8x + 1/4x = x
30 + 1/8x + 2/8x = x
So 30 = 5/8x
Multiply everything by 8, so 240 = 5x
Divide everything by 5, so x = 240/5 which is 48
