"Weird" Al is a pretty good guy and very entertaining, so making him normal is punishment because it takes away his ability to be outlandish and entertaining (i.e. taking away something someone likes as punishment for bad behavior)

I also snuck in a couple gags about "normal" cultural stuff with the implication that they're so conventional and widely accepted that they're dull and mediocre (YMMV, but a scathing criticism in my world)
