Yeah, there's only one math and it's the language of the universe. 🖖

Apparently, it's a count noun in british english (owning to different types of mathematics like geometry and calculus, so it's like "sports" or "sciences") but in US english, it's a mass noun like gymnastics.

Either one is fine imo, but it seems unwieldy to say "maths classes".

Maybe someone who uses the term "maths" in real life can clear up the reason.

Avoid jail time with this one simple trick - do legal drugs.  If you commit a crime while on legal drugs, the law can't arrest you!

Man, politics in America is really something else.  :/

Do you guys go nuclear about stoves too or do you have more important issues to talk about?

I'd like to know the context for this insane quote. Then again it's an "R" in Texas, and a lot of "R"s are just plain stupid, or criminally stupid. #1/6/21

In other news, Brazilians are out for blood after the attack after Lula was elected. Taking a play from the US' Republican Party and aping an overthrow isn't sitting well down there. Good for them.

In December, a scientific study showed that gas stoves are associated with asthma and other respiratory conditions (apparently breathing in gas fumes is somehow bad for your health).  How closely associated?  About 13% of current childhood asthma is attributable to gas stove use.  That's a pretty damning statistic.

So a federal agency is looking into all the options, including a ban.  Note: nothing has been decided yet, but presumably, the big bad gobermet won't go to gated communities and/or trailer parks decked out in SWAT gear, kick in the door, and force god-fearing Republicans at gunpoint to install new Greta-approved emasculating electric ranges instead.

I kid, but this idea of "government overreach" is laughable, especially from the people who want the government to regulate pregnancy and call for genital inspections regarding women's' sports.  Yikes.

And as someone with asthma myself, that stuff is no joke and it's a hard thing to grow up with, especially when you suffer "invisibly" from other people's POV.  I can't count the times I've been told to be calm or brave or think positively or this that and the other while struggling to breathe.  They mean well, of course.  But the simple fact is that it's a physical problem with a physical solution, much like a broken leg or a nail sticking through one's foot.  Imagine saying to someone in that situation to just be calm and think positively.  At best, it just keeps the person from running around in panic and further hurting themselves, it doesn't do anything for the underlying problem.

<Pulls rescue inhaler out of pocket, brandishes.> Interestingly enough, we have a gas stove and gas heat, but my asthma doesn't react to them. I'll tell you what does. When we bought this house in '02, it had carpet. I was sick as hell, had two inhalers- one steroidal and one albuterol. I was using both, 2 puffs, 5 times a day. Once we got the carpet out and laminate floors in, the problem basically went away. The culprit? Cat dander. Republicans are like puppies chasing their tails, but without the cute, since they cause so much trouble.

My family could never figure out the cause of my asthma.  And it triggered at the oddest times - heavy exercise, respiratory disease (cold/flu, croup was especially fun :/), possibly some seasonal influence (oct/nov was the worst).  And secondhand cigarette smoking - back in the day that stuff was everywhere - is a lot worse on me than other people.

All I know is that changing drugs really made a huge difference - I went from about 50-60%ish lung capacity to upwards of 90%.  Felt like a new lease on life.  Eventually, I just started having attacks less and less, and less severely, and didn't need a rescue inhaler almost at all.

Every now and then, an attack happens and it's very upsetting to go back to wheezing again (covid was no picnic), but for the most part, I'm fine.

What could possibly be more important than stoves!? 😉

Republicans don't actually have any platforms. They just know they're against whatever Democrats are doing.

Democrat: "Gas stoves have been linked to health issues. Maybe we should consider--"

Republicans: "The evil Marxist Socialists are coming for your stoves!"
