I read Bullard of the Space Patrol in 1963. Immediately hooked. The nest year I found Heinlein and I was a happy camper.

Varley's Gaea Trilogy is a beautiful read. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaea_trilogy  The Thunder and Lightning set, four books, is just wild.

That was actually a Calvin and Hobbes skit. Hobbes was commenting that the pickles were very "salubrious".

Interesting. I recently did a quiz online about vocabulary, and the only word I got wrong was "salubrious." I still scored better than 100% of other people who took the same quiz.
