In the "old days", that argument went along the line: God works in mysterious ways. It's been re-cycled but it's just as stupid.

One doesn't need the contradictions, it has enough bat shit crazy ass psycho crap to scare a kid into a life of analysis.

QuoteYoung Earth creationism evangelist Kent Hovind asserted this week that God had purposefully put contradictions in the Bible to “weed out” non-believers.

What??!  He admitted the Bible has contradictions?  I'll bet Pat Robertson is pissed.

Romans 1:20 - "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualitiesâ€"his eternal power and divine natureâ€"have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."

I guess we can throw this verse out, then, because God wants us to have an excuse.
"Oh, wearisome condition of humanity,
Born under one law, to another bound;
Vainly begot, and yet forbidden vanity,
Created sick, commanded to be sound."

When you look at something but don't see anything, what you are seeing is the invisible.  God is all around us, but we can't see him.  When you see nothing, you are seeing the invisible.  That is how we know God exists.

That is about how the logic goes. And they make billions selling that crap.

Yeah, dumb-fuck rationalizing is not exclusive to any ideology. Christians and muslims are equally retarded when you get into the apologetics.

Is apologetics taught in seminaries?

No, I was thinking something different. And the article strom posted has nothing to with getting into apologetics. That man is an avengelist, he is making a right out claim from his holy schmoly text.

Or if that was one of your usual passive agressive snarky remarks aimed at me, it once again fell short at understanding what was offered.

They are made blind so they cannot see, and deaf so that they cannot hear.  Just like hardening Pharaoh's heart.  Paul's god was very different from the Greco-Roman gods only in number.  A polytheist would have said something very similar.  Even Thales said "the world is full of gods".  As plain as the fact that the Sun goes around the Earth and the Earth is flat.

To see the Sun going around the Earth or that the Earth is flat ... takes a strong act of imagination for a modern, but was common sense to an ancient, and the opposite was ridiculous if not unimaginable.  A few ancients did realize that the Earth wasn't flat, but a sphere, but they couldn't explain it until ... Newton.  Copernicus was more complicated (in fact) than Ptolemy (because Copernicus also used circles rather than ellipses).  You can't prove that the Earth rotates on its axis ... until the Foucault pendulum of the early 19th century (after Newton).  And without the assumption that Newtonian physics is correct ... gravity and conservation of angular momentum make no sense.  And for Galileo and Newton, the idea of the laws of physics, not being the very thought of G-d ... would be senseless.  Modern atheism was implied by Newton's work, and in the first iteration we got Deism not atheism.  Conservation laws (conservation of momentum was first imagined in late Antiquity, but wasn't as popular as Aristotle) plus a clockwork universe ... doesn't even require a Deist deity.  One of Newton's arguments was the apparent stability of the Solar System, which we have discovered only in the last 100 years to be false (and not because of Einstein, but because of Chaos theory).  Chaos theory in full form only came about in the last 40 years.  Materialists of past times, were ahead of their times, even in the 18th century.

Evangelism = advertising using Freud's nephew - Darren (Samantha's husband)
Apologetics = defense against of the Dark Arts - Snape
Polemics = offense using the Dark Arts - Voldemort
US Taxes = SCOTUS has ruled that Congress' powers are absolute, they can legislate any tax on anyone, or exempt anyone from said tax ... McConnell and Ryan are the twin gods, the Dioscuri/Gemini.
