What I find interesting is this part of the Huffington Post article:

QuoteAfter the masked men left the encampment, several protesters followed them to a street corner. The men in masks then fired, according to Omeoga. None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.

"followed" and then got randomly shot, yeah right... when we have videos of protesters admitting to forcefully kicking out people, video of them harassing and encircling the guys against a fence and testimony of those guys being assaulted (in the mute video you can also see them laying hands on them rather violently). This is clearly a much more complicated issue than it has been painted by some media sites. And I wonder why they ignored all that evidence that is widely available and a layman like myself was able to find after a few hours of research.

And nobody, who wasn't there at the time (and there wasn't anyone else) will know what really went down between Trayvon and Mr "See my big gun" Zimmerman.

The media ... propaganda device for you know who.

this is why the court declares you "not guilty" rather than innocent. The prosecution was unable to prove guilt.

Are we going to have a "Black Lives Matter" Lives Matter movement now? Good grief, when will it end?

I bet alcohol or drugs were involved too ;-(

In the videos you can see protesters smoking joints, but I don't really think marijuana makes you more prone to physical violence necessarily, but may induce confusion and emotional hypersensitivity at least from my personal experience.

Yeah, I will insist on driving if I had two cases of beer. One joint and I won't even consider walking. Totally different high. One makes you think you are invincible the other makes you realize you can't even think.

Yes, I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable reason you would take a gun to a rally you disagree with and intend to show you disagree with.

Well... if you intend to walk into a rally full of those you disagree with, and you intend to let those people know you disagree with them, and you're a fucking coward, that would be a reason to go in packing. Was that their reason? I have exactly the same level of ability to know that as you have to know whatever it is you're insinuating their reasons were*. Zero.

I'm not defending anyone here. I'm simply pointing out that if your argument is there is no explanation other than your one single claim, your argument is weak because there is almost always another possible explanation.

That being said, here is what I believe about this entire issue. Tons of white conservatives refuse to believe that racism exists in this country. And tons of white liberals refuse to believe there is anything they can do to change that. I count myself among those individuals.

In short:

What reasonable reason do you have in going to a rally where you disagree with the people and... as pointed out... has had cases of violence and vandalism break out? All you are doing is instigating and asking for trouble... and since they came packing you have to presume that they expected trouble since there is no other reason to bring a gun.

I don't know what their reason was (though I have my guesses)... but I cant think of a single good reason. Just because you started shit doesn't make the people who attacked you are anything less than 100 percent in the wrong... but you are still "asking for it" when you are intentionally provoking criminals and things escalate and you have to be held responsible for that.

We are in agreement. Thanks for clarifying.

I will go out on a limb and say that we're probably also in agreement when I say that the fact that race needs to be discussed at all in this country in 2015, much less that incidents such as this happen and/or need to be discussed is nothing short of fucking disgusting.

We can kid ourselves all we like about being sophisticated and/or civilized human beings.  But the ability to appreciate a good tailored suit in no way negates the reality that we are today, as we have always been, fucking savages when you get right down to it. That is all we are. That is all we will ever be.  I am not making excuses nor am I saying this is ok. I am simply calling it like I see it. We as a species are savages. And our ability to demonstrate that never ceases to disappoint me.

holy shit man that guy at 24:01 he encapsulates why identity politics suck perfectly.

Baruch

All politics is identity politics ... in America we are mostly made up of tribes with one member, or a few nuclear family members.  This is very useful for the powers that be.  If we aggregate into larger identity clusters ... like labor unions ... this creates problems for the powers that be.  Americans are the most "useful" fools on the planet.  But thanks to the size of the US, it is rare (like on the day of 9/11) for Americans to think of themselves as Americans.  These days are also useful for the powers that be.
