Hello, my fine, furious friend. If you were hoping for a forum full of calm, rational people... RUN! FUCKING RUN!

If, on the other hand, you were just looking for some folks who have been there and done that, you have come to the right place.
Speak when you have something to say, not when you have to say something.

Hi guys,

I'm a 25yo Black male (reason I stated my race is because there aren't many black Atheist). I was raised in a Christian Baptist family for about 22 years of my life, these past three years I've been contemplating my life as a human and religion and spirituality played a big part in it. I went from being curious, to being an Agnostic leaning Christian, back to Christian and then back to Agnostic. Now I'm totally ready to deplete my life of religion altogether but I think I need a lot of help. I'm not the smartest person out there, in fact I would say I'm quite the opposite of being smart lol, so I really don't know much about Atheism and the dynamics Atheism follows but I am a really good learner. I joined this site to get help, research, make friends, network, laugh, and to understand the Atheism movement so I can then return the favor and help others that are new to Atheism just like I am!

So yes I'm a noob as they say! Bare with me around these forums, I might say or ask weird things but that's a part of me learning!

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the forum.

Atheism is simply defined as a lack of belief in a deity. Buddhists can be referred to as atheist since many do not believe in a god.

Quite a bit of the "mainstream" atheists tend to be secular rationalists and/or humanists. Atheism is not required to be part of these groups, but it does simplify things if  you are an atheist.

No need to feel that you aren't as smart as your peers. It is better to realize your collective knowledge is incomplete than to make assumptions that could cost you later. Rationalists embrace honesty in sharing information and are ok with the idea that nobody has all the answers. They encourage people to push their limits and to always continue learning. Ignorance can be overcome with curiosity and persistence in learning.

I think you'll figure out what works best for you. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Life is a series of inquiries, experimentations, and ceaseless learning.

Hey thanks Aletheia. I'm definitly more of a humanist, I think humans should be able to make their own choices and rely on each other and not have to rely on some person or thing that doesn't exist! I think our lives would be much clearer.

Hello, were you ever religious?

Solomon Zorn

Hello, Furious! I am also a former Christian. I've been an atheist for about 15 years, give or take. I even went to Bible college, for a couple of years, intending to become a minister. Now I use my Bible knowledge to debunk it.

Here's one of my poems you might enjoy:
