Number 4 really resonates with me, because thats what my parents said when I came out as an Atheist.

Let's just cut to the chase and make it 1 thing they shouldn't say: Hello!
Goodbye is OK though..

Ever notice when a religious/spiritual nut (especially the extremely devoted ones) just say "hello" you can tell that they are religious nuts?

I give credit to their soul-less eyes. It's like all their personality has been sucked dry from them.

Got approached by a couple of JW's at a gas station, trying to give me some pamphlets. I told them I was an atheist and reading a book that made a very good case for Jesus never existing. Never saw a hastier retreat. I don't care about 15 whatever. Just tell them you can make a case for their holy man being non existent, they shut up pretty quick.

Maybe in your neck of the woods, but in a more nonbelieving area like mine, in the cases where you do run in to a complete nut that is tenacious, they have heard arguments like that before and are more immune to logic and less scared off by it. In fact saying that you have a case against it only makes fundies more tenacious and rabid.

Stromboli was saying they get scared off by just mentioning a convincing argument. I guess it's only in his area of Utah, because over here people get pissed off and you're saying people just get pissed off too by where you are, and your area's pissed off theists are probably way worse than my area's. At least in my area, we have enough nonbelievers to safely stand up to them. (the American atheists headquarters is located a half hour South of me, if that hints anything)

Tbh I think stromboli has the only scared theists I've EVER heard of.

Oh it's definitely fear. Fear is the reason for their defensive hostility in the first place. I've only found that theists get very defensive and pissy when you confront them in their beliefs. They don't want to hear that there is no evidence for the things they think is true. For the times that I was commuting to Bear Creek, PA It was definitely more of a hostile environment and I got more shit for being an atheist than I ever have in NJ. I'm just lucky that in my area where I live that there are so many non believers that I can be as open about  my atheism as the religious folks.

You are right. Plus that took way less keystrokes than what I had to say. Short, sweet, and to the point for the win!
