last sunday i was bored and i wanted to go to my favorite comic book store and i got there and found out it was closed because it was sunday so on monday i went in and asked why he is closed on sunday and he said it was because the stripmall complex has a "Rule" that the stores can not be open on sunday because the landlord says so..

So i was thinking that the atheist community should start looking for and supporting business that are open on sundays..

This "day of rest" stuff is bullshit..

I told the comic book store that that rule was dumb and a landlord can't tell you when to be open..
today when i went past he had a sign "NOW OPEN ON SUNDAYS!"

Win!

The conservative Christian town I live in just recently passed two laws: 1. Alcohol can now be sold on Sundays, and 2. Stores can now carry more than the 6% alcohol content limit. That means only beer and cheap wine was permitted to be sold everything else was banned.

All the private clubs are now bars, and liquor stores are now being built in town.

One used to have to drive 40+ minutes to go to the nearest liquor store. Not anymore.

I don't care if they want to close on Sunday. They lose revenue by doing so and also, as a former facilities manager, I know it costs more to close and open a store for a single day than to just keep it open. Stupidity is its own reward.

Here in Arizona you couldn't buy liquor before 12 O'clock on Sundays, now you can. Thank God!  :jook: Solitary
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

This should be like a movement across the country.
I bet you that guy at the comic book shop gets loads of kids coming in on sunday!
Saturday is the day they have them big pokemon card game tournaments.
So maybe he will make sunday a pokemon card game tournament day also!
I would love that. My deck is nice. I love beating kids with my deck.

yeah this place was closed on wednesdays and thursdays and then sundays..

Now its just wednesdays and thursdays..
And when its open its all day..
I don't get that really..
Well in the summer yes because kids are home from school.
But during the week during school time?
I don't get that.
I think that the two days off we call the weekend are dumb..
Because things don't work that way anymore.
the world is 24/7-365 now.. so closing for a day because of some man in the sky..
Dumb.. I get people need to have days off and close for inventory and that i support.

I grew up in a small town that shut down on Sunday, but it was never an issue with me. It wasn't until 7-11 moved into Utah and the arrival of convenience stores brought about a challenge to Sunday closing laws.  Nowadays it is voluntary, so if people volunteer to lose business, fine by me.

all our convenience stores are open 24/7-365 but one..
So i don't get why 90% of everything else closes on sunday..
On sunday 98 percent of the town is shut down..
But the convenience stores all sell gas so they need to say open..
so i think thats how the religious people justify "allowing it"
But 100% of the town is closed but the convenience stores on dec 24,25,26..
And that is way dumb

I really don't care. If you want to close down for the day and miss out on sales for Jesus then whatever. Hey, close down to go home and jack off for all I care.
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

Hooray for the hard drugs!
Now go the whole 9 yards and open a strip/lapdance/poledance club!

Closing on Sundays, especially malls and shopping centers is usually not a good business model.  Where I live, perhaps a majority of better "mom and pop" restaurants close on Sundays.  I end up going to a chain outfit like Applebee's, which does a brisk business on Sundays, and I would imagine that most of their clients are Christians.  The only reason from a business standpoint of not operating on Sundays would be a lack of clients.  If a business wants to close on a particular day of the week, I guess that's up to the owner, but he will have to make a sacrifice in most cases.

60 years ago, business districts where I grew up in my Chicago suburb were closed tight, except for restaurants.  It was a tradition.  When I was 18, I left home and moved to a small town in Montana and worked 7:00am until 5:00pm for the Forest Service.  Businesses closed at 6:00 so it was a hustle after work buying a pair of pants, and I always did it in dirt covered sweat stained clothes, unless I could make it to Saturday.  If you had to do business with a bank, the only option was to take the day off.  Most of the people I worked with could just send their wives to the bank, and didn't see the problem.

Later, I worked in a lumber mill, and we often worked Saturdays.  That made shopping an even bigger pain in the ass.

But things are better now.  I wouldn't complain too much.
