From Austin Cline, your Guide to Atheism:
Quote
Yes, accept they believe this outrageous bullshit and be tolerant of their fucking idiotic way of thinking.
I guess that's moderation as opposed to their way of EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE!
Both history and present events show that religious folks always had and still have a penchant for real persecution, torture and murder of those whom they perceived as "heathens". Please excuse me if I don't give a flying French coitus when they get all offended at our criticism of their disgusting beliefs. In fact, they should thank their imaginary gawd for making us atheists so nice.
What ever you say proud ass. You really need a sense of humor. Solitary
I do what I can to be moderate. I think it's just as bad to be a militant atheist as it is to be a militant (insert religious proclivity of choice here).

It all depends on what it is meant by "militant atheist". Criticism of oppressive ideologies doesn't fall in that category, in my opinion.
No.

Hm. I think the line I draw is attempt to indoctrinate.
For my part I will never be moderate towards those who would wish death on me.

Maybe I need to be more specific. Indoctrinate or control my life choices.

lol
Thank you jesus for making atheists so nice. It was meeting so many good altruistic people who were heathens, fornicators, unbelievers, gluttons, heretics, and homosexuals that lead me away from my beliefs especially the hell dogma

Then we basically agree.
Nope, sorry. I have no reason or intent to moderate my treatment of the ridiculous ideas of the religious. Those pious fucks would still be laughing at the idea of moderating their treatment of the unbelievers and twisting the thumb-screws tighter (much like islam) if not for the secular laws passed in the "enlightened" west.
No, religious right. I will not apologize for for the "atrocity" of laughing at your funny beliefs as long as I have to wait for apologies for the true atrocities committed in the name of your religion(s)!
Hot damn, guys. And I thought I came down hard on religion! I just think supernaturalism is intrinsically irrational/superstitious and oppose it on those grounds. The domineering/barbarism combo is just that extra bit of nastiness that really gives it a (richly deserved) bad reputation. How can humanity progress with one foot in the future and the other stuck in the past?
QuoteIs a moderate atheist someone who doesn't mind if people believe things they consider silly, dangerous, irrational, ill-founded, etc.? This would allow people with those beliefs to continue promoting them without fear of contradiction, challenge, questions, or dissent.
^ This is my fundamental gripe with accommodationists (http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Accommodationism). You just can't hold hands and pretend that this stuff isn't toxic. Even the warm fuzzy stuff. Especially the warm fuzzy stuff. The extremist stuff is an obvious evil, while the idea that certain texts or individuals are holy and above reproach is less so.
A lot of theists prefer the old days when blacks, gays, and atheists remained in the closet and gave theists full control of the podium. But that's not fair is it? Why should minority groups have to buckle under the thumb of religion? All I ever heard for most of my life was, "God this, God that, bla bla bla." Why can't atheists stand up and express a different point of view?
The problem is that theists haven't yet come to understand that continually beating others over the head with dogma they cannot prove annoys some people who wish they would stop doing it. But too often when they are challenged, they assume a sword fighting stance with one arm raised behind their head and the other pointing at the challenger, while they warn, "The wages of sin is death!" Sheesh! What does a person have to do to get them to stop?

What they mean when they say "Militant atheist" is anybody who won't sit quietly at the back of the bus.
I think I'm being perfectly reasonable with them by not feeding them to hungry lions, but trust me that if I had several hungry lions handy a few of the godbrothers and sisters would be digested.
I would have no issue allowing the theists to believe whatever they wanted as long as they follow the same rules they want us to follow. Shut up about it, don't try to pass laws in favor of it, leave others the fuck alone about it, and last but not least DONT PERSECUTE THOSE THAT WANT EQUAL FUCKING RIGHTS.
