Hello there. I'm a new atheist. I have finally accepted that just because I wanted to believe, it didn't make it real. I was searching around to see what others are saying, and to see what I can learn.

Stick around and you will learn a bunch. And a quick read through the threads and you will learn a lot. Welcome.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent,
Is he able but not willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able or willing?
Then why call him god?

Greetings! Boy did you pick the right place! It's a good crowd here with lots of information. What religion were you before? I was a baptist in the bible belt. It's difficult to come out and say it if you're raised religious because most of them drill a scary idea into our heads as to what it means, but when we finally figure out what it means and meet others like us, we know it's right for us. Trying to force myself to believe in a religion I didn't believe in and act how it said we should act made me depressed for so long and now... sometimes I sincerely wish I had done it sooner. :)

I was raised catholic. I denounced, and was always a skeptic. Even as a kid. It was actually very easy for me to stop believing all the religious horseshit. Nuns got very frusrtrated with me when I asked questions. The priest scolded me, and I told him to go fuck himself, and to stick the Saints up his ass. I've been fine ever since. Then I started searching for the "real god" and the true religion. Ironically, the research, and desire to find the "true religion" is what made me discover that it's all horeshit.

Agreed. It's kind of hard when you drop the label you have always had. It was like I ran around frantic trying to find the right one to fill it's place. My best friend (she's a wiccan white witch) told me that it was okay to not have a label for a while and that it was okay to not identify as anything but not Christian. A few months later, I realized I was Agnostic. It took me longer still to look up Atheism and what exactly it was and when I seen that Atheist does not automatically equal anti-theist or Hard Atheist, I knew it was right for me. Now I know I'm an Agnostic de-facto Atheist and about to get a tattoo I designed showing that (my intro thread is still on the first page btw with the pic on the last page of my thread).

So have you told the family yet? And what's the thing that you always found the weirdest about Catholicism or the bible? For me, Baptist have annoying long funerals, as a kid the first story that screamed bs was Noah's ark, and as an adult the story of Job is the one I find the most cruel.

Also, as someone lacking a dick who talks like they should be a sailor, I can attest to the fact that * have no power here ;)

Also, look at the Shout Box. We are currently talking about porn :P

I hated everything about it. I always had questions, and the abswers left me with even more questions. It all started during catecism with the story of Adam and Eve. If that wasn't the most fucked up thing Ive ever heard, I don't know what is. I hated the fact that everything was based on tradition, and no logic. "My grandparents did it, I did it, therefore, you're doing it."

I realized that the only reason I believed in God, is because I wanted to believe that when I die, I was going to continue to live elsewhere. It's really all about accepting reality, when you get away from religion. Plus, I find it evil. Look at the bullshit that's going on in the US, with regards to homosexuals. NC, and Mississippi are passing idiotic "religious freedom" laws. An asshole christian lawyer proposed a law to make it legal to kill homosexuals, via shot in the head... and much more atrocities. This Theodore Shoebat fuck face. It's scary, and in my opinion, a mental disorder.

Did you hear about the debate going on with Christian scholars that Eve wasn't created by Adam's rib bone but his dick bone and the rib part was a mistranslation? I'm not sure why but I like the story better like that. XD

I think the most interesting thing I've found out while on here is being an Atheist, Agnostic, or one of the other groups that don't believe in a diety does not automatically mean you don't believe in an afterlife. A lot of people on here actually believe that we have some type of life after death or they are neutral about it neither believing or disbelieving it. It's rather interesting that we can separate the two.

I can respect people believing in it, and I echo what I've seen on may posts in here. I don't have a problem with beliefs, I have a problem with people who interject laws based on religious beliefs. I could care less if people believe in God, Spiderman, the toothfairyn or magical flying vaginas. It's what people do with their beliefs that bother me.
