Hello, my name is Tomasz and I'm from Poland.

I'm liberal - in European sense of the word - and atheist. I have master's degree in history and as one can guess past is something that is of much interest to me, particularly XX century totalitarian regimes. I despise nationalism and church which is supporting and actively cultivating Manichean worldview.

I enjoy discussions about history, religion and politics. Also I'm looking for a place where being liberal and/or atheist isn't something to be ashamed of.


I'm looking forward to participating in forum life.

Mainly history. Politology, sociology and little of psychology and neurosciences too. Also physics and biology cause I want to have at least rudimentary understanding of BB and Evolution Theory. Sadly being interested does not mean having deep enough understanding.

What do you mean about beliefs? Poland certainly isn't cool with atheism which is equated with communism here. Liberalism also isn't held in favor here.

Oops! Apologies. I misread. I thought you were openly atheist there. Also, I must admit that I'm the typical American stereotype in that I'm not familiar with the current cultures and mentalities of most other countries save a general idea and major news stories.

No apologies necessary, I am openly atheist. It's just that atheists aren't accepted here as a group, as an individual I didn't have any problems. But I spent most of my time among highly educated people so no surprise there.

As for stereotype I too don't know much about neighbor countries - apart from occasional book or article - and how people live there. I prefer spending my time on learning something else.

And here I am in the bible belt where it is completely cool and almost normal for a plumber I contacted today to have Christian waiting music and the signature on his (exclusively work) phone texts reading "Is Jesus your Lord and savior??" I swear if I hadn't been trying to get a plumber for an elderly woman who was friends with my grandmother, I would have replied "No and I'm not interested in hearing about it. Please consider altering your music and texts to something more religiously neutral" on principle alone! XD

Glad I'm not alone. There are so many countries and cultures that it's insane! I think one of my more fascinating conversations was with a woman who has pet reptiles and a dog in Australia. The strict pet laws there left me very surprised at the differences between us.
