WZB study shows significantly high numbers amongst Europe’s Muslims
Religious fundamentalism is not a marginal phenomenon in Western Europe. This conclusion is drawn in a study published by Ruud Koopmans from the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. The author analyzed data from a representative survey among immigrants and natives in six European countries. Two thirds of the Muslims interviewed say that religious rules are more important to them than the laws of the country in which they live. Three quarters of the respondents hold the opinion that there is only one legitimate interpretation of the Koran.

These numbers are significantly higher than those from local Christians. Only 13 percent of this group put religious rules above national law; just under 20 percent refuse to accept differing interpretations of the Bible. For Ruud Koopmans, this powerful tendency toward Muslim religious fundamentalism is alarming: “Fundamentalism is not an innocent form of strict religiosity”, the sociologist says. “We find a strong correlation between religious fundamentalism â€" actually among both Christians and Muslims â€" and hostility toward out-groups like homosexuals or Jews.” Almost 60 percent of the Muslim respondents reject homosexuals as friends; 45 percent think that Jews cannot be trusted; and an equally large group believes that the West is out to destroy Islam. The Christians’ answers for comparison: As many as 9 percent are openly anti-Semitic; 13 percent do not want to have homosexuals as friends; and 23 percent think that Muslims aim to destroy Western culture.

Some 5,000 detainees in Belgian prisons are Muslim. This represents 45% of the prison population. A situation which imposes constraints on the organization in prisons.
A Forest prison, was squarely decided not to serve pork meals. 80% of prisoners are Muslim and in fact refuse to eat pork. It therefore became easier not to be expected at all on the menu rather than make different dishes.

But there are other drawbacks to this strong population practicing Islam. Thus, detainees refuse to obey the guards because they are women. Or they try to turn some commonplace in places of prayer.

And then there are the dangers of radicalism in prison. Belgium The Muslim Executive of himself warns against the risk of radicalism and asks that we can regulate the practice of religion in order that the extremists do not take advantage to push a fundamentalist Islam.

The number of Muslims in the prison population has more than doubled to nearly 12,000 in a decade, figures from the Ministry of Justice show.

The dramatic rise prompted calls for ministers to investigate whether police and the courts are treating Muslims more harshly, with some suggesting the rise is due to Islamophobia.

Muslims represent only 4.7 per cent of the population in England and Wales, according to the most recent Census, yet one in seven prisoners (14 per cent) in England and Wales is a Muslim, according to the statistics.

In some jails the proportion of Islamic inmates is more than one-third, and in Whitemoor, a Category A prison in Cambridgeshire, it is as high as 43 per cent.

The Muslim prison population has increased from 5,502 (7.7 per cent) in 2002 to 11,729 in 2013 (14 per cent) and is set to continue rising rapidly because of the large numbers of Muslim teenagers in youth jails.

Other jails with a startlingly high proportion include Isis (34 per cent) and Feltham (33 per cent), both in London.

Some research suggests around one-third of Muslim inmates are from Caribbean or African backgrounds.

The shadow Justice Secretary, Sadiq Khan, who obtained the statistics, said: “It is astonishing and a huge concern that one in seven prisoners is Muslim. This is compared to just one in 20 of the population.

He said the Government’s “complacency [on the issue] is breath-taking”.

Penal experts point out there are large numbers of teenagers and young men of Pakistani and Bangladeshi heritage in the peak age group for criminal offending of 15 to 25.

Muzammil Quraishi, a senior lecturer in criminology and criminal justice at Salford University, said: “Young Muslim men are under the official gaze from their school days onwards â€" they have the lens of the state turned on them. Certain populations can become suspect populations in the eyes of the law enforcement agencies.”

Amal Imad, of the charity Muslim Aid, suggested that poor educational performance, problems finding fulfilling jobs and family breakdown were factors in the increasing numbers of Muslims behind bars. She said: “It may be that they can’t integrate into society, they don’t think they have a positive chance to integrate into society.”

Mizanur Rahman, a spokesman for the organisation Muslim Prisoners, blamed the spike on Islamophobia and racism among police officers.

Of the 12,300 children in urban primary schools follow 6451 Islamic religion. That is 52.4% and for the first time more than half. In addition, 18.7% of children attend Catholic religion, 1.6% Protestant lesson and 26.4% non-denominational ethics. Big differences

The figures vary considerably depending on the districts where the schools are located. At Kiel for example, follows almost 83% of children Islamic religion in Antwerp North is 64% and 63% in Borgerhout. But in more rural districts, the figures are much lower, such as in Ekeren (14%) or in the polder district Berendrecht-Zandvliet-Lillo (15%).

The school with the highest percentage of children who follow Islamic teachings, is Flora in Borgerhout 94%. Of the 58 urban elementary schools count is 33 more than half of children who follow Islamic religious instruction. I would call all the above a problem, wouldn't you? Maybe its time to stop labeling people sounding a warning as Islamophobes and actually addressing the real problem.

This is the fear based incentive that will get Trump elected, or Ted Cruz. I don't want that to happen, but until somebody on the left politically actually addresses these issues with "only a small percentage of Islam is responsible for all of the actions" and does something to indicate they will take action in a positive way, the ongoing influx of Islam into Europe will continue.

Multiculturalism doesn't work. The simple fact is that police forces in European democracies are overwhelmed by the numbers.

Oh and to clarify,my son was awarded the Bronze Star in Iraq for rescuing a squad of Marines by using his MRAP to shield them so they could cross an exposed position under fire from 3 directions. He saved 8 lives in the process. I am proud of his courage and his actions. 2 tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan he got run over by a fuel truck (medevacked) and blown up with IEDs twice. He is still dealing with medical issues the VA is slow to help with including severe back injuries and PTSD.

I was never in favor of the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, despite allegations to the contrary. But I'm not going to belittle my son's courage to be politically correct on the forum, which seems to be my biggest fault.

Take all prisoners.  Send to Australia ;-)  It worked for the British Empire.

The ideology of early Victorian criminal elements ... doesn't matter.  No need to study Dickens.  Arrest, transport, don't let them back to your home country.  Turkey is done playing Australia for the West, since over a year ago.  The Aegean is too easy to cross ...
