Quote
The conservative Christian Social Union (CSU), ruling party in Bavaria, want to pass a new law making it illegal for anyone to wear a burqa in Germany.

â€œThe law [on a burqa ban] should be quickly passed by the government,” Ilse Aigner, finance minister in Bavaria told Die Welt.

â€œIt is first and foremost about showing one’s face. It’s about living together as a society and seeing one another,” said Aigner. “It doesn’t fit to our society to hide oneself, and it contradicts our idea of sexual equality.”

The CSU politician said that the law would also apply to tourists coming to Germany.

â€œWhen I went to Iran I followed the instructions of the country and wore a headscarf. Likewise I expect women from the Arab world that they don’t cover their faces when they come here. Such laws don’t just apply to people with German passports.”

A ruling by the administrative court in In Bavaria in April 2014 banned teachers from wearing burqas in schools.

Anyone from Germany to comment?

We should ban ugly people too.. Nobody wants to see ugly faces.
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

Making the law to ban the niqab is one thing, but how successful it will be to enforce it?

I thought Germans criminalized fashion years ago.

Hakurei Reimu

Germany has banned all amusement except beer and all fashion except lederhosen.

Probably for the best.

Women would look funny in lederhosen.  Just like men in a dirndl ;-)  So I can't see just lederhosen being allowed.

Frankly I like it, but only if they also ban those ridiculous "skull-caps" that jews wear or those whacky headdresses that the mormon/quakers/shakers/etc women wear.

I mean, fer crying out loud at least get rid of these and then also make a law that one has to at the very least wash and comb your hair.

Notice that in many sci-fi stories, the aliens all wear the same uniform, as if to say, we're an advanced society, what's the big deal with fashion...

I'm perfectly happy with peopled wearing their gear because I can see them coming and identify them. Either to avoid conversation or engage in it. I personally am a fashion study in nondescript- flannel shirts in the winter or Tshirts in the summer time, levis or cargo shorts, New Balance walking shoes or steel toed work boots, a generic coat and a blue Walmart ball cap with no emblem. No tattoos, no jewelry. Sort of "Redneck Lite" in this neighborhood.
