Not many actors have impressed me the way he did. Just a personal thing I guess, but he was by all accounts a good and generous person besides being a consummate actor.

Kind of sad thing for me is, although I've always enjoyed his work, I never knew his name until now.

Rickman owned the roles he played in, which is about as big a compliment as an actor could get. He was often far better than the people he worked with, unless you are major in love with Kevin Costner or Bruce Willis. He made those roles and he made the movie, IMO. Pretty sure there won't ever be anyone any time soon that could match his portrayal of Snape.
