Look around the next time you're out and about and notice that most cars are painted "safe" colors such as silver,  black,  dusty blue,  etc. One of the least safe colors is green.  Green cars are or at least used to be involved in more accidents than any color.  For some reason people tend to pick colors based on resale value rather than safety which doesn't make sense.  Driving or even riding in cars in general isn't the safest thing you can do so why not paint cars in colors that DON'T blend in with the scenery.? Sure dayglo orange is pretty ugly and probably wouldn't have a great resale value, but a car painted dayglo orange on the other hand wouldn't blend in with all the shit in the background and would seem less likely to be involved in an accident.  This seems like a no brainer and yet we have millions of cars all painted colors that for the most part just blend in together.  Perhaps it's people's need to belong in with the rest of the herd .. What do you think?

I've wondered about this too.  To me, the new cars are pretty ugly to begin with.  I just bought a new Mazda 3, which after looking at all the others was the least ugly.  Actually, I think the styling is pretty nice.  But the other thing about colors is as you say, with most cars flashing light browns like campaign or a subdued silver, probably my least favorite bla colors.  I paid an extra $350 dollars to get the Mazda in red.  I can live with it.  Another thing I noticed is that most manufacturers must be buying paint from the same company.  I see my shade of red on Fords, Chevys, and a bunch of others.  There's not much for individuality.  On the other hand, the new cars are much better built than they were 30 years ago.  In the past, I've never been much for style, but the new cars are so much the same, that I'm starting to think about styling more and more.

Henry Ford ... you can have any car you like, as long as it is SS black.  Ford was Hitler's favorite American.  He wouldn't be caught dead in his bunker with a Chevy ;-)

Don't do that.

Does it seem odd that people will put resale value over actual safety?  I used to paint cars for a living and though it seems like there are only a handful of colors available most car paint has literally hundreds of colors in it, even plain innocuous white and black have dozens of colors in them. Ever seen a car painted titanium white? It's almost blinding.  Black also has other colors blended in otherwise every single imperfection in the finish jumps out like a sore thumb. The same pretty much applies to all the primary colors.

I must admit this has never entered my little pea brain, but it certainly seems reasonable that vehicles that do not blend in with the background would and could reduce some accidents…..good thinking ya old fart.

I'm thinking that the next car I have I'll paint it titty pink then tell everyone I'm the top seller for Mary Kay ..

My car is purple. Granted, it's sort of an onyxy purple, but still pretty damn purple when the light hits it right. :)
How can you be sure my refusal to agree with your claim a symptom of my ignorance and not yours?

I would, but I'm colorblind.

My bike is white, but I didn't really pick it for the colour.

Here's a better idea: pick the color that you like (btw, flourescent green, the new standard of roadwork safety vests won't blend with most backgrounds and it can be sexier than red), and run your lights day and night. You get used to shutting them off when you park, just as you get used to remembering your keys too, and you consume no extra gas with them on.

Personally, the non-color black works for me - it never looks bad with anything, even when you never wash it, and it makes a cheap car almost fit in with more expensive ones, which tend to be black.

There are two types of ideas: fact and non-fact. Ideas which are not falsifiable are non-fact, therefore please don't insist your fantasies of supernatural beings are in any way factual.

Doctrine = not to be questioned = not to be proven = not fact. When you declare your doctrine fact, you lie.

Yeah, I've been running with my lights on for many years now.  And I haven't had trouble turning them off, either.  I've been planning for awhile now to have my next care painted in hunter orange.  Maybe day-glo green trim would be good.

If I thought I could get away with it I'd put a stolen cops car light bar on top of the car. There are entirely to many stupid motherfuckers driving around paying more attention to Facebook than what's going on around them in traffic.
