Greetings from the Motor City.

Hello Everyone,

I actually reside in a close suburb of Detroit, but the Detroit area has been my home for most of my life. I was born in Detroit, as were my parents and grandparents, etc... and I've spent a lot of time in the city when I was young. So I consider myself a Detroiter first.

Spent some time in the Army (Airborne) as well as the Michigan National Guard, currently employed in the automotive industry (I'm a manufacturing representative for oversea manufactures to the Automotive industry)

I was raised Catholic, went to a private catholic school, was even an alter-boy, but I have been an atheist for close to 30 years now.

I'm a strong supporter of the separation of church and state, so I am quite dismayed by the political use of religion to influence voters. While I recognize there are many religious folk who are ignorant and hateful I believe many religious people are kind hearted and mean-well, these are folk who are simply afraid to question and look outside the lifelong comfort that religion has brought them, however. I find the hypocrisy of those who proclaim the most faith, who wish to dictate how we or others should live their lives some of the most reprehensible persons, and I find their influence in the world, especially here in the US both alarming and disturbing.

Other than that I'm a fairly sarcastic person, and probably believe I'm much funnier than I actually am, but what the hell life's to short to take so seriously all the time.

I play guitar, enjoy cooking (Sort of a health freak), like to read and also enjoy riding my bicycle, mostly trail riding though (Dirt trails), not so much road cycling, and am also a yoga freak.

My best friend is my neighbor's dog (Actually watching him for a couple weeks while they are away on vacation) and I don't care for kats. (Sorry kat peeeple)

SUP Bruno? Glad to have you. Former mitten residence myself. Little town north of Bay City about 45 miles. Grandparents lived in Troy, moved from there when I was around 5 to up north. Now a Florida palm. Welcome to the forum.

Your just the man I want to talk to, health freak, Detroit, you might know things I want to ask. I'm a bit of a green person from the other side of the pond in London, as such I keep hearing stuff about city farms and green generation in Detroit, but all my information comes from biased sources pushing the agenda.
Is it big, are there many signs, or is it so much fluff?

He's not standing in tall grass his legs are that short (Collie Basset cross). There are a few dog people round here.

There are some good thing going on in the city with regards to Farming Initiatives and Community Gardens, though not as big or widespread as many folk had hoped.
Heading out the door shortly, but I could follow up later with some interesting threads about rural farming in Detroit; my daughter and her husband have a farm in northern Michigan where they are practicing sustainable farming through permaculture.

So you're from London huh? I want you to know London is my absolute favorite city... that I have have actually never visited (Yet, one day I hope to pay a visit, as well as pay a visit to Anfield and watch the worlds greatest Football Club)

But I shouldn't think an American naturally thinks of that Frenchman.
In my younger days I played a few games with boys in red berets (not US though), and hardly found one that did not have a good sense of humour, although my republican (not of the American type) and Algerian friends do not tend to agree with me. I think the paratroopers humour comes from jumping from balloons in training which I did once and found to be a bit of a bitch. I am not of military material. Nobody in their right mind would trust me with scissors let alone anything more leathal, but I enjoyed making a few pictures of guys on manoeuvres.

I also love London the best thing about it apart from the parks is that it is one of those sorts of places where you just don't know what you will find round the next corner, at 57 I am still finding strange places.

My daughters boyfriend is a Scouser and lived just by Liverpool football ground. and would adamantly agree with you about that team. I on the other hand prefer a different sort of football game.

You have got to tell me about your daughters farm, in my early thirties I was going to experiment with permaculture but one thing and another stopped me, but I am still highly interested.

I've been a bit cheeky on this forum about the US of A but I must admit Detroit has a fascination for me. and I keep on making strange little connections to your city, like there is a small band which I think I may have posted a few videos up on this forum of their songs who I follow.

Talk about small world. Well it's a fucking-small world as I saw the Luddites perform back in late May or early June here in Detroit, very good band, great music...wonderful energy.

The world gets even smaller...They are playing in Royal Oak this Devil's Night (Night before Halloween) here in Royal Oak a suburb of Detroit, and a co-worker of mine actually mentioned to me that her and her husband are going to see them perform as they live in Royal Oak.

My daughter's farm is small, but they have pigs, chickens, ducks and one evil Kat. They land is old farm land that was over-farmed so they are reclaiming the soil through the use of pig and chicken tractors. Amazing how much they have accomplished in a couple years...I'm actually making a kale, squash and quinoa soup tonight with butternut squash I brought back from a trip up to their place last weekend.

My ex is from Detroit, born and raised there. Last time I was there it looked pretty sad. About 80% of her old neighborhood was abandoned. Her folks house was the last standing structure on the block.
