This was trending on my facebook and people seem to be making a big deal about it.... To be honest, I don't see why or really care. It is a church after all and the church's flagpole. They can fly whatever flags in whatever order they want.

But other than that, I guess I just don't see what the big deal is. I'm anti religion, but I'm also anti nationalism so it seems like this is being made in to a whole lot of nonsensical drama.

While it's not a big deal to me, it is part of the "flag code" for the United States flag to fly bellow no other. I feel these people would probably be offended if the flag was stepped on, burnt, not folded properly, whatever... but to fly another flag above it is just as disrespectful. So it is only a matter of consistency that annoys me.

Just wait until an Islamic flag is flown over the American flag above a Mexican flag and gay flag.

Well, to be fair, all those Old Navy t-shirts and flag bikinis also fall into that category, along with athletes draping flags around their shoulders like towels to celebrate victories and so many other examples. It's easy to be inconsistent if the action makes people feel good I guess. :)
How can you be sure my refusal to agree with your claim a symptom of my ignorance and not yours?

Intent matters, and symbolism communicates intent.  So I am offended by a church flag higher than a national flag ... but also in the US, I am offended by a US flag in the sanctuary, because of "separation".  It is a little less offensive for a church to fly a US flag outside for the same reason.  The usual intent of flying a church flag with a national flag, and with the national flag lower than the church flag is ... the church is in rebellion against its privileged tax status ... and perhaps they are rejecting certain SCOTUS decisions ;-)

The church is just being dickish because they don't have enough control over the government and the country.

pretty much, this and along with the videos of all this conservative Christians bitching about how the government is now the enemy and against god, all this is just a bunch of juvenile minded old farts who can't adapt to the modern world, so react like scared old cronies from the 1920s.

Wut the fuck is a "Christian flag"?

I know the Vatican has a flag. I know the Episcopal church has a flag. As a kid I visited my grandparents' Lutheran church, and while in England I attended Church of England schools, but never noticed flags. I've traveled all across Europe and the Americas, and never noticed a flag that was a consistent Christian flag.

Short of wanting a theocracy they're pretty much pissing in the wind. I really could care less if they have the flag upside down and backwards with a dildo sewn in the middle. Let them piss off everyone else and alienate even more people who might think of attending church.
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

I grew up going to Church of Christ and when I was 16 my aunt got me a job at a Christian bookstore. I had never heard of the Christian flag until then, but evangelicals love that shit. There's even a Christian pledge to both the Bible and the Christian flag. Honest to "God." :D

QuoteI pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe.

QuoteI pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's Holy Word, I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path and will hide its words in my heart that I might not sin against God.

Since when is there a Christian flag?
Since 1897, designed in New York.  But anybody or any organization can have a flag.  You can design one for yourself if you are so inclined.

Christians just jelly cause their flag isn't as fabulous as the gay communities.

King James wording is strange.  It use to drive me nuts when I was a kid.  Why does the Bible written so funny?  "A lamp unto my feet?"  I never owned a lamp for my feet.  Why would I want to light up my feet?  So people could see my feet in the dark?  If you were walking along a road at night with another guy, and you said, "Gee I wish I had a lamp unto my feet,"  he would think you were nuts.

Years ago, my dad gave me a new testament written in modern English. It still had some strange phrases now and then, but for the most part it was a lot easier to understand.  Of course, a lot of people don't care about understanding the Bible.  They just use it to clutch close to their heart when walking out of the church in front of a lot of other people clutching their Bibles.

It has always amazed me how people react emotionally to symbolism, like it is the real thing it represents. This is the same with words. I'm convinced that mankind became crazy when language was invented. Understand lul?  :biggrin2:
