I don't see the charm in movies that are made of constant murder.

I've murdered a shit load of people. If I  have noticed that I found it entertaining I would have notified my CO immediately.

In the movie version of Lawrence of Arabia, Lawrence discovers he enjoys killing people.  This is devastating to his middle class English delusions.

I guess it's a good thing no one is actually murdering anyone on screen then.

You biased against snuff flicks?

I'm biased against people actually being harmed or murdered.

If you don't see the difference between people being legitimately murdered and people playing with props, I don't really know what to say other than... that's weird?

I saw enough people killed to not be "entertained" by watching people get killed. That's not weird, that's rational.

And that's perfectly fine.

I have a harder time watching and am bothered by films that involve sexual violence and suicide than most people I know. But I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with films that depict those types of acts or that there is something wrong with people who enjoy those films. They just aren't for me, so I don't watch them.

Just because I feel uncomfortable about something doesn't invalidate it's position as art of entertainment or make people wrong for finding entertainment in it.

Ummm, okay then.

The point is that just because I don't like a style of entertainment, I don't see the need to try and discredit it as entertainment... no matter how good or valid my reasons for disliking it are.

In a free society that is true.  But snuff films are illegal for a reason.  I have seen enough unedited historical footage (even public executions in Imperial China) that qualify as snuff films.  Most women don't like combat movies.  Many men do.  Most women might like non-porn romance movies.  Most men don't.

New Dune photos

I am so stoked for this movie, you guys have no idea.  I desperately want this to be a smash hit.  A lot of people aren't familiar with Dune and that's a shame because it's hugely influential - which you can see most obviously in Star Wars.  It absolutely deserves to be in the public consciousness again.

I love Dune.  I read the book--am re-reading it right now.  Bought the Avalon Hill game of Dune.  I liked it, but it was hard at that time for me to get people together to play games.  Saw the movie and it was just okay.  This new one looks more promising.
