Y'all up yonder think Noo York,  Noo Jersey and Cuhnetikutt are the tri state,  but wonder down around Cincinnati and you'll find the tri state is Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. . Maybe Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio  or any number of places where 3 state borders meet. .Washington, Oregon, Idaho. .Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, ..etc.
Of the 62 points in the United States where three and only three states meet (each of which may be associated with its own tri-state area), 35 are on dry land, 27 are in water.[1]
