Faith: pretending to know things you don't know

SGOS

The history of mankind is a heritage of all things mankind.  It doesn't matter whether you are from China, Great Britain, or Mexico. It's part of all of us, and helps us understand our beginnings and our divergence.  Christians in Texas are busy at this time trying to rewrite American history.  ISIS seems content to wipe it out.

It is incredibly ignorant behavior:  "We don't like this or that part of our past, so we will get rid of the history."  It's nutty behavior, although it is done with serious intention by petulant children with big guns.  It's religious vandalism.  We must learn to tolerate these assholes, because being assholes is part of their religious belief.

Solitary

When you have God on your side you can do no wrong stupid atheists!  And yet they call us fools. When in the hell is mankind going to realize religion is the main problem for everyone we have---think about it! It all comes from people believing they have knowledge when all they have is ignorance passed down by bigoted, hateful, men that didn't have any knowledge either. Solitary
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

My heritiage too... my mom's entire side of the family is Assyrian.

It really sucks that these pricks are doing this and wiping out a culture from history. I really don't know what to say... I'm really upset about this.

sorry to hear that :S, knowing your heritage is one thing, but seeing what is part of that being destroyed by a group of fucking savages today, thats awful.

This is why I think history needs to be preserved in tightly secured facilities, for study.

Islamic State militants raze Iraq's ancient Hatra city: Government

QuoteIslamic State militants have destroyed ancient remains of the 2,000-year-old city of Hatra in northern Iraq, officials said on Saturday, in their latest attack on Iraqi antiquities which the United Nations condemned as barbarism.

The antiquities and tourism ministry said it had received reports from the northern city of Mosul, which is under the control of the radical Islamist group, that the site at Hatra was demolished on Saturday.

A ministry official said it was difficult to confirm the reports and the ministry had not received any pictures showing the extent of the damage at Hatra, listed as a U.N. world heritage site.

But a resident told Reuters he heard a powerful explosion at Hatra early on Saturday and said that other people nearby had reported that Islamic State militants had destroyed some buildings there and were bulldozing other parts.

Hatra lies about 110 km south of Mosul, the largest city under Islamic State control. A week ago the militants released a video showing them smashing statues and carvings in the city's museum, home to priceless Assyrian and Hellenistic artefacts dating back 3,000 years.

Qatari fatwa: Destroy Egypt’s pyramids, Sphinx!

QuoteA fatwa from a Qatari-owned online portal has been widely circulated by Egyptian press this week after it called for the destruction of pharanoic monuments on the grounds that they are contrary to Islam.

The religious edict, issued by Islam Web, was picked up by several independent Egyptian news outlets, such as Youm 7 and al-Fagr. It suggested the destruction of the historic monuments were a “religious duty” that Egyptians must fulfill.

But Egyptian newspapers carrying the story failed to notice the fatwa was first issued in December 2012. It has nevertheless sparked prime-time talk show discussions in Egypt.

The fatwa, which had been issued in response to a user’s question to the Islam Web’s administrator, had stated: “The demolition of the pyramids and the sphinx is a religious duty,” before referring to the monuments as “idols.”

It added: “(The destruction of) monuments is a duty by Sharia (Islamic) law, as many texts have stipulated … Texts on this issue are many and well-known but (implementing) them is restrained to one’s ability… And so, if it’s not possible to destroy the pyramids and the Sphinx as a result of the presence of an authority preventing that, Muslims would not be committing a sin.”
