Reminds me of Hari Seldon from Asimov's Foundation series.

As I was reading the comments below season 4, episode 5 of Farscape, I was reminded of a series called Lexx that I've seen a few episodes of way long ago. I'll check it out when I'm finished watching Farscape. I remember it was pretty entertaining.

Quote from: PopeyesPappy on August 29, 2024, 11:09:20 AMI haven't kept up with this thread but there are several series I enjoyed that I'm currently waiting on a new season to come out. On Apple TV there is Silo, Foundation, Invasion, and Monarch. Others include Wednesday and The Old Man.

I want to add Rings of Power to this list. I didn't realize season 2 was already streaming until last night. I watched season 2 episode 1 last night. Which brings me to being pissed at Amazon. It seems they have locked Dolby Atomos audio behind their $3 a month no adds option. This is a change that strated this year. The additional charge is on top of the $139 a year Prime membership, and I'm not to happy about it. Every fucking thing is going to a subscription service, and most providers are looking for new shit to bill you for on a continuing basis in order to increase their revenue.

Yea, no. Doesn't meet my morality standards. Questionable quality. I can already tell the difference between online streamed 4K content and my UHD Blu Rays or the rips I make from them. Some as large as 90 GB for a 2 hour plus movie. And I can't afford a lawyer...

Oh, and it's Yo ho ho not Yo ho yo ho. :)

While I'm loving these shorts, I hope they're just B-reels - stuff that was storyboarded but never really fit into one of the prior episodes - and not the new regular program.

Feels good having actual assassinations again.  Feels like we've only had around 3 or so proper assassinations previously - the kid from the pilot, that hero woman, and that genius inventor.  I'm not sure if I should count the spring breakers since I doubt Blitz's crappy flyer actually attracted legit clients.  He didn't seem to be very interested in settling accounts, which is suspiciously out of character, so he might have just made up the clients to win the challenge he challenged Versoika with.

Anybody else watch "On Patrol"?

Actually, I remember Blitzø asking if somebody was on the list before offing them. In the end, it didn't really matter how many he killed, though, because he just ended up blackmailing Verosika anyway.

Well, I finally finished the entirety of Farscape, and I just want to say that I still think it's the best thing ever on TV.
Now I can watch Lexx and see if it's as good as I remember it being.

Confession: I actually really liked Crais towards the end.  Yes, he's selfish (like Rygel) and shady (like Stark and Chiana) and prone to fits of anger (like Dargo) - but he was honest and honorable (like Aeryn) and a reliable compatriot, though you still need to be wary to some degree.  But compared to most of the peacekeepers, he's like a saint.  It's just a damn shame he's so vengeful and spiteful.

Holy crap. This one almost made me cry. It's really good.

After having absorbed the third episode, I have some thoughts. Of course, DO NOT READ if you don't want to have the episode spoiled.

First thing, of course, I love that they fleshed out Kinger in this episode. Before, he was just an aloof goofball, but we actually got to see what he's like when he's lucid. His advice for living life in the circus is applicable to real life. Makes me wonder if the whole "circus" theme is supposed to symbolize the real world. I'm glad they didn't just torture Pomni again. She actually got something out of this adventure and seems happier than before. ...Which makes me think they might be setting things up to give us a real kick in the gut later.

The fan theory about Jax being an NPC who managed to slip his way into the core group is looking a little more probable now. I'm still not totally convinced he's an NPC, but him refusing to show what happens when he holds his breath is a bit suspicious. He could be playing coy, or maybe he's trying not to blow his cover.

Zooble feeling uncomfortable in their own body, frequently switching out pieces to try to find the right fit, has a pretty obvious parallel to real life body dysmorphia. Wonder how they're going to build on that. Zooble has been largely absent in these episodes, since they keep skipping out on adventures.

While it wasn't a terrible episode, I didn't like this episode very much.

It's good that we learn some stuff about the cast, but most of what we learn was strongly suspected, so it didn't surprise me.

This one was noticeably light on jokes, wacky hijinks, and the existential horror I've come to expect.  Not sure if finding out a couple things about kinger and zooble was worth the trade.

And while it's nice to not have Pomni freak out every episode, it feels like something's missing without it.

Just finished my Farscape rewatch.  All 4 seasons plus Peacekeeper Wars.

What a run!  Almost no bad episodes.  Okay, maybe threeish bad episodes.  There are episodes between major arcs that aren't especially important plotwise, but almost every episode has some important character moments.  Every character has some sort of arc - they aren't the same from start to finish.  Even Pilot has an arc or two.

Given how readily this show kills off characters, I remember being very surprised when the show wrapped up without killing off almost any of the main villains.  That's almost unheard of in these sorts of shows and is very, very hard to write.

I thought it was a bit silly that some planets were just referred to as "commerce planet" (aka inhabited, technologically-advanced planet) instead of their proper names, but given that the gang are all escaped prisoners, they probably think of them like we think of gas stations.  They don't plan on living there and they've never been there before, so it kind of makes sense that they'd be so uncaring about their actual names.  Probably made things a bit easier on both the writers and the audience, too.
