National Geographic has really let itself go lately

Eastern or Western? It is really crazy how many artifacts the empire left in the UK. Walking around London and all of a sudden there's an old Roman wall and they find coins all over the place.

We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

We skipped Rome because at that time we wanted a chill vacation. Took the train from Venice to the Amalfi coast and stopped by to see Pompei which was ridiculously bigger than I ever imagined. While in Venice, we managed to stumble across some tickets for "La Traviata". An old Italian gentleman seated next to us asked if we minded if he sang along a bit, softly ("piano")?. I know just enough Italian to say "si, canta favore". He sang beautifully. Venice was near empty that week, end of the season. Gladly, it was before everyone hated Americans. Bobby bought one of those throw-away cameras. There is something about the light in that city.

At one time I had fifty pen pals in Italy. It was fun to swap mail with people all over, but the Italians loved over the top. So they did.

Imho, Eastern was just as Roman as the Western Empire.  Any date would be somewhat arbitrary, but the general consensus is that the Roman Empire as a whole was donezo when Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1453.

Hear me out...

So I know we all love those spiderbots and buying cheap beer and smoking cigarettes and wage slaving for megacorps and/or nations intent on destroying entire ecosystems and doing genocide while also being bizarrely aggressively dismissive of other people's spirituality, but...

human guy, legs don't work, pelvis doesn't work, gets bullied -> navi guy, legs work, pelvis works, gets hot wife...

Pen pals were so much fun. I had one for a year from Scotland via my school. We talked about books like "Charlottes Web". We even exchanged photos and waxed leaves in the autumn. I also had a secret admirer who wrote like a hundred sappy letters, but never gave their ID or return, so I couldn't respond. These days it might be considered stalking, IDK, LOL.
