So we have three words that sorta sound alike and come from three different sources and some folks think there a divergence of some sort?

convergence.  They seem like they'd be related, but they're not.

A lot of the time, words sound similar because they come from the same source - a common ancestor, if you will - like potion and poison (Latin potio, Proto-Indo-European root poi-)

Divergence because people ("some folks") assumed they had the same origin originally and now mean three different things.

"Yeah, that's very sad.  Anyway...I got a nice shot of the main gate with the torches and here you can see the volcano in the distance.  I know that 25 people were later dismembered there but at the time, it was a really nice moment.  The sun was shining, there was a cool breeze with the salty smell of the sea, and the distant chirping of birds (I later learned these were Compsognathus).  In that moment, I truly felt alive.   *pregnant pause*  Sorry about your loss."
