Nope.  A (negation) - theos (god/gods).  That's it.

I fervently wish people were more Star Treky or at least more Babylon 5y, but no such luck.

That's etymologically correct.

But it is a loaded word having hundreds of years of history, with connotations and nuances.

Quote from: SoldierofFortune on January 30, 2025, 08:55:11 AMSo you can both be an atheist and believe that your birthday influences your personality and future life.
Yes.  It not only can happen but it also does happen.  Rejection of one superstitious belief doesn't necessarily entail the rejection of another.

Even though there's a popular image of atheists as completely rational vulcans, the truth is that people often turn to superstitious beliefs to make sense out of unexplained phrnomena or because of tradition/upbringing, etc.  So yes, superstitious atheists do exist.

Mr.Obvious

I second hydra,100%

You may not like it, but it do be that way.

And fine and well to complain that some atheists still don't fully accept reality and plain simple facts.
But when doing so, don't ignore the reality and simple fact of what the definiton of atheism is.

Some atheists believe all kinds of shit. I even know a few that voted for Trump.
Save a life. Adopt a Greyhound.

The godbotherers want to frame atheism as a belief that the holder claims to know everything. Then they can tear up that strawman and be their pious little shitty selves.
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

Surprise! Despite the demonization by the lunatic believers we are human, and heir to all that is human. The fact that this is even needed to be stated says much about the enemy's campaign to dehumanize atheists. To be a believer do you HAVE TO be a bigot?
