It's either empty or filled with a clear liquid to the brim. One would make sense, the other ... not.

I thought it had been taken out of context and the body of the opinion piece was respectable even though the headline was nuts.  It was not taken out of context.  The body literally reads like villain monologue.

"yes, war is hell — but have you considered the alternatives?"  WAT.

It also uses some very suspicious logic to allege that humans built complex societies from simple ones through violence (just because the two things happened together doesn't necessarily mean one caused the other and more violent definitely doesn't equate to more complex, as any historian will tell you) and that the overall decline of violence since the Stone Age is somehow related to warfare.  The amassing of wealth/resources in modern times is also somehow assumed to be related to warfare and not the invention of complex tools to more efficiently extract and refine these resources.
