I think he does a GREAT American accent

Quote from: "SvZurich"Carl ain't some screwup, he's the ultimate badass!  :D

He's been, while not a screwup like season 1 & 2, still a scared little kid longer in the comics than he has in the show. He grew up big time between season 2 & 3 when they got to the prison. He's still acting like a kid where I'm at in the comics, somewhere around issue 62 or so, which I'm guessing should be without spoiling anything somewhere into mid to late season 4 for the show.
Carl has some incredibly dark times coming up from where you are in the comics.  Shit Rick would crumble at, in my opinion.

[spoil:3a1q9e7n]Scared kid or not, he's saved both of his parents are varying points, and still tries to protect his daddy.  In spite of my rule to delaying buying comics on Comixology by a month so the price is lower, I am tempted to buy the current issue now to see if Carl's fate is in it.  Last month, his bravery got him into a very very bad situation.[/spoil:3a1q9e7n]

Quote from: "_Xenu_"Good to hear. Rick needs to quit being so paranoid about letting new people in because he needs numbers now more than ever. Its just foolish to turn down good folk like that. Hell, even Merle should be a welcome addition at this point. He'll bring chaos within the ranks, but he's no weakling and could help fill the muscle void left by Shane's death.
Agreed, but Rick has understandable trust issues and he's crazier than a one-legged avocado right now.  (and a living testament to the idea that a single charismatic leader - a benevolent dictatorship in Rick's case - is a untenable form of government.  Power should be delegated to multiple people to prevent exactly that sort of leaderless dysfunction)

Merle may be a psychopath, but he's a damn good fighter in a world where you need every fighter you can get.  Just keep him on a short leash and have him working on something he loves doing (apparently, bashing heads) and he's fine.  Just don't leave him to his own devices.

Good leaders get people who might otherwise be at odds - like Merle and everybody else - working towards a common goal.  Bad leaders do crap like this:

We brought you back to our safehouse.  Now we're going to kill you because you know where our safehouse is.  Hurr Durrrrr.[/spoil:6st90k6b]

Btw, am I the only guy here who friggin' loves Maggie?

Icarus

A meme I saw summed up why I stopped watching the show, "Constant arguing with zombies sometimes (maybe)".

Hydra009

It's the standard drama formula.  BSG was pretty much drinking, arguing, and gunfights (maybe).  Game of Thrones is drinking, sex, and murder (maybe).  Didn't stop any of these shows from becoming wildly successful.

The serial format and halfway-relatable characters makes for a welcome respite from the timeworn cop dramas and reality tv cesspool.

Game of Thrones has plot, walking dead is very repetitive. Get to safe place, find some cool people, relax for a short period, something happens, safe place no longer safe, go to next safe place, repeat.

Hydra009

Well, yanno, it is a zombie show.  It's going to focus on zombies and day-to-day survival.  If you're looking for a beach episode, you're not going to find one.  Sure, some of the stuff is predictable, but other times...not so much.  I dunno how far you got into it, but there are some pretty big doozies up ahead.

TWD is actually pretty interesting is that it really delves into the emotional toll of living like that for an extended period of time.  Makes me want to tune in just to see who will keep their humanity (not to mention their lives) and who'll give up or give in.

TWD Comic has more depth than just that.

[spoil:1ki8um2y]Has the show even touched on Herds?  Cannibal hunters?  A relatively safe community in the suburbs of DC?  Bandits wanting to molest Carl?  Human communities under siege from other humans?  DEEP!!![/spoil:1ki8um2y]

I'm really curious to see how dark they go with the show.

Comic spoilers:
[spoil:3xu7cwdo]Just the showdown at the prison and its aftermath. That would wipe out half the cast. The baby?Rick and Carl out on their own with Rick melting down.[/spoil:3xu7cwdo]

Oh, and no, you're not.
"When you landed on the moon, that was the point when God should have come up and said hello. Because if you invent some creatures and you put them on the blue one and they make it to the grey one, then you fucking turn up and say, 'Well done.' It's just a polite thing to do." - Eddie Izzard

He does indeed do it well.  It just sounds peculiar having only previously heard him speak with an English accent.

wolf39us

I looked up one of his interviews and think his real accent sounds funny lol.

Same thing happened to me when I found out Hugh Laurie was English as well

SvZurich

I loved Hugh Laurie on Blackadder!  :D
