Free healthcare isn't getting something for nothing. It's getting your money's worth from the taxes you pay. If the government didn't waste so much of our money, they'd suddenly be able to afford it. Would also help if, you know, the rich actually paid taxes.

Born under one law, to another bound;
Vainly begot, and yet forbidden vanity,
Created sick, commanded to be sound."

It's worse than that - they're not only not paying their share, they're making you (and me) foot their operating costs when they're doing well (employees on welfare) and pay for their bailout when they're not.  Gives 'em enough wealth to buy government positions.

Meanwhile, we're arguing about whether or not we should use some of our taxes for our own healthcare/education like that's not a completely normal and doable thing elsewhere in the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification (Google: "You've visited often"  I sure have, google.  I sure have.  PS - Don't be evil)

It used to be the norm that technology would enable you to do things that you couldn't ordinarily do or do it much more efficiently/faster.

Want to listen to some music?  Walkman cassette player -> CD pla..player (minor stuttering issue) -> MP3 player.  Every step of the way was a pretty big advantage.  I can't describe to you guys how amazing it was to fit 100+ songs on a brand new mp3 player.

Want to listen to music now?  Download spotify and endure spotify hell and the almighty algorithim (Yes, there are better alternatives.  But jeez, what a regress)

Want to watch a TV show?  Better watch it on cable when it airs (yes, we literally ran to and from the kitchen during commercials) -> DVR it to watch later -> stream it whenever you want because everything's available on our network with no commercials (!) because that's part of our subscription package.

Want to watch a TV show now?  Sure, just a sec...oops, not available on our app anymore, that's on some other app which also requires a subscription.  But we did raise the subscription fee and reintroduced ads.  And the autocaptions write out "We're about to piece together this mystery" as "Were about to piss together thistery" hope that's okay.  Oops, there's the pinwheel of death.

Actually, you know what?  It's not on another app.  It's on no apps.  Infinity Train, Final Space, etc.  You literally can't get them legally anymore.  Better sail the seven seas.  But do it quick because Congress is working on some legislation.

Don't get me wrong, there's still good stuff every now and then, especially for "advanced users" but this gauntlet that everyday consumers have to walk down is goddamn awful.  The part that pisses me off the most is the ongoing loss of control on the consumer end of things.  You don't own your music or your TV shows - you just pay for access to it - if it's gone, it's gone.  Eat shit.

Congress doesn't do legislation anymore, everything gets done by executive order these days.

The great thing is you can give T.rump the Nazi salute and they can't complain.

Fun historical fact: in North America, pirates were practicing democracy (e.g. voting) before the then-colonies.

Gawdzilla Sama

Pirates also didn't often use Black Pearl size ships. They typically used swarms of smaller boats that dashed out, caught and looted a ship and then returned to hideouts in the coastal swamps or estuaries. Jacksonville, Florida, was such a place back when Florida belonged to Spain. The USN had to go in and adjust their attitudes.

There were also pirates called "privateers" who only preyed on the ships of other countries. They were therefore sanctioned by their own governments.
