Lots of people assure me that it's not possible.  Not people from countries with subsidized healthcare, though.  Kind of an important detail...

It's a bit like walking by a coffee shop and the person I'm with telling me that coffee doesn't exist, it's crap quality that no one likes, but the parking lot's full and meanwhile, we're basically just boiling water and putting a pinecone in there and telling ourselves that we're #1.  Just a little dissonance.

They can absorb some O2 directly from the air, but that has its limits and they have to get back to the water eventually.

I remember the old saying "It's free and worth every penny."

Schooling can't be totally free, somebody has to pay for the building, the equipment, and oh, the teachers. So it may be apparently free to the students but they will be paying for someone else's education when they start paying taxes.

You say that like it's a bad thing but you're basically also describing how Social Security works and that's not exactly a contentious idea.  At least, not the broad strokes.

Social security is just another bank savings account when you get down to it. My USN retirement pays four times what my social security account gives me. I'm not the typical user there, there were a lot of years when I didn't have any income the government knew about. (I'll leave that there.)
