QuoteU.N. Warns of New Carbon Dioxide Milestone; House Votes to Bar Pentagon Funds for Climate Change
A U.N. agency says the world has reached a new milestone on carbon dioxide (CO2), which is driving climate change. The World Meteorological Organization warned that in April, for the first time in history, monthly concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere topped 400 parts per million throughout the Northern Hemisphere. WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud called for urgent action to cut emissions, saying, "Time is running out." Next week, President Obama is expected to announce a new regulation to cut carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants, the leading source of carbon pollution in the United States. The warning from the WMO came just days after House lawmakers passed an amendment to a major military spending bill, which bars the Pentagon from using funds to address climate change and its potential impact on national security.

Once again, the breathtaking wisdom of our Republican representatives.

QuoteClimate change poses another significant challenge for the United States and the world at large.  As greenhouse gas emissions increase, sea levels are rising, average global temperatures are increasing, and severe weather patterns are accelerating. These changes, coupled with other global dynamics, including growing, urbanizing, more affluent populations, and substantial economic growth in India, China, Brazil, and other nations, will devastate homes, land, and infrastructure. Climate change may exacerbate water scarcity and lead to sharp increases in food costs. The pressures caused by climate change will influence resource competition while placing additional burdens on economies, societies, and governance institutions around the world.  These effects are threat multipliers that will aggravate stressors abroad such as poverty, environmental degradation, political instability, and social tensions â€" conditions that can enable terrorist activity and other forms of violence.

Don't you know the UN is trying to take over the US and anything coming out of the UN is therefore suspicious?!??!

This is needed because Americans trust the military more than any other institution in the nation (that includes churches).  Can't have the DoD confusing the people with well-established science.

Yup, both parties are exactly alike.

In a pigs eye they're alike.

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

The amendment says the military can't buy climate data. They can collect their own or get data that is freely available. That's what the amendment says.

So if someone releases data to the public the DoD can use it?
