Right-Wing Jackass to NFL: "Hire Michael Sam, and we'll boycott you!"

This is another shining example of the hypocrisy of the homophobic right-wing. Whenever they launch boycotts of gay-friendly corporations, they're exercising their First Amendment rights. Whenever the LGBT community boycotts any particular anti-gay corporation, they're bullies and fascists.

Quote“We shall exercise our First-Amendment rights and shall not stop until the drafting NFL franchise cannot sell a single ticket, jersey or  autographed football,” says Burkman. “In short, we shall be relentless.”

Burkman LLC is now in the process of forming powerful grassroots organizations in 27 of the 50 states. He states that all of these organizations shall be vigorously deployed in the boycott. In addition, Burkman says his group is building a coalition of evangelical Christian leaders from across the nation to take part in a protest if Sam is drafted.

Although Burkman’s “American Decency Act of 2014″ has been widely discussed by both national and local news outlets, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL team owners have so far refused to weigh in. Sam himself weighed in on Twitter.

“The NFL may not fear boycotts from the populist right,” Burkman said. “The NFL like most of the rest of American business is about to learn that when you trample the Christian community and Christian values, there will be a terrible financial price to pay.”

So allowing gay people employment is trampling on the rights of Christians. This demonstrates the cruelty and assholery of the homophobic right-wing.

Yeah, millions of people will stop paying $100 to sit in freezing cold weather with 60,000 screaming fans to watch a bunch of overgrown kids knock the hell out of each other because one of them is g..g... OH I CAN'T UTTER THE WORD!

Yeah, good luck with that guys.

Last night the first round of the NFL draft was the largest television audience they've ever had even with Michael Sam waiting to be drafted and he will be drafted or signed as a free agent. If he goes and has a killer season the fact that he's gay will be roughly as important as which brand of toilet paper .00000000001% of women's volleyball fans use on Tuesdays.

I can't think of one legitimate way that any group could force this kind of policy on anyone. Personally I'm glad, because the more homophobic assholes we identify and shut down the better. I just feel sorry that Sam has to put up with this shit.

AllPurposeAtheist

It's just the tip of the iceberg because even if Sam isn't drafted or signed someone else will be eventually or an already established mega star will come out and the whole house of toilet paper cards will fall.

In any case it is moot, because Sam was drafted by the Saint Louis Rams.

So I heard, I'm happy for him. :)

Yeah, they showed him on ESPN at home, first crying in relief and then kissing his partner. Has to be a first. I was glad to see it. This is the stuff that moves us forward.

Why are these people so obsessed with gay people.  They don't mind the wife beaters, child abusers, drug users, rapists, gangsters, adulterers and thieves that play in the NFL.  He is guilty of the only sin that matters in these simple people's minds.

Here is my shocked face.

I think this sort of bigotry serves a valuable function. It highlights absolute idiocy and further isolates such minded people from the rest of the population. When we look at the racial oppression in the latter half of the 20th century, it us almost universally outrageous to us now. As will this sort of hateful posturing. Let them rant, and then watch them commit acts of hypocrisy (by patronizing the NFL) when they realize nobody's listening. Assholes.

Pretty sure they blame The Gays partially for the "breakdown in family values" that seems to be gripping the country. So the Gays are responsible for all the school shootings, Welfare moms, etc.

(Stromboli switches to Country Bigot Stereotype:) "Hell, it ain't them gays so much as them damn intel-eck-shul atheists and they-er godless agenda, what leadin' our children away from GAWD and into sinful damnation. Next thing you know thay all be a masturbatin' behind the church! We all goin' to HELL!"

Just now on another atheist website, and we are mostly pretty liberal socially for the most part, was a very disappointing response from a gay rights supporter, "It shouldn't be about his sexuality" And all I could think was "NO SHIT" but how am I making it about that by pointing out his "firstness" in this?

Same shit I hate when other atheists say "I don't make my atheism an issue". Right, so the way to fight bigotry is to remain silent to placate the insecurities of bigots?

I really wanted to punch this atheist in the face. You look at the video of when he got word he was drafted. If he had been straight kissing a girlfriend no one would bat an eye. But suddenly when he does the same gay supporters like me are making it an issue? How? Instead of attacking me for supporting him how about attacking the fuckwads who want him to hide what he is?
