Eve one of our newest members has caused me to think of the Russians and their belief of what "democracy" really is. Their experience with democracy is a very small experience and is filled with corporate corruption. The Oligarchs dominate Russian capitalism and have cheapened the Russian socalled democracy to the point that it is unrecognizable. An interesting and informative documentary looks at the Russian Oligarchs and their relationship with the Puttin dictatorship (administration).

Not that I for one moment believe that Eve is actually a Ukranian or a Russian or has actually been to either place, but she claims to be and actually filters in contrived broken english to further her fraud. I do however wonder what REAL Russians know or even expect from American democracy. They don't seem to understand that the hallmark of our democracy is individual rights. It seems that the conservative evangelical tea party propaganda machine has been hard at work to corrupt the reason and purpose of the U.S. Constitution convincing Eve atleast that "majority rule."
Unless you actually understand what individual rights are you can't comprehend why the majority rule is not the law. And if you are religious you can't understand that "god's law" is not the law of the land and in no way superceeds tha Constitution.

2) Freedom of speech only extends in the fact that the government cannot sensor speech.

3) Name one time that anyone in the USA was ever stoned for speaking officially that is. Some people have been stoned when they spoke but that is a drug thing. Well, when US citizens beat up homosexuals, we put them in jail for hate crimes. In Russia...not so much. In Russia, they can't even talk about homosexuality without fear, whereas here in the US, Hawaii just became the 16th state to legalize gay marriage and our president advocates gay rights.

And why is there such a difference? Free speech. Without it, gays would never have been able to speak out and share their story and get the support they needed to become equals. Homosexuals are still feared in Russia and they can't even come out and talk about it without serious repercussions...and that's why free speech is needed. To enfranchise the minorities and the downtrodden.
